It seemed that after awhile my desires for them waned and I "let go" of them. When you think of giving up something you tend to have the thought, even if only for a moment,of depriving yourself of something. For me, letting go seems gentler. I don't know, maybe you would consider letting go of drinking and smoking and eventually letting go of any eating habits that may be harmful to you. It's worth a thought.
