Guest guest
Sat nam! Wow I am seeing that alot of people are doing 40-day meditations right now! I guess it's time for me to make another attempt. Both times I have started a 40-day run (1st time Sat Kriya, 2nd time a simple aura building exercise) they have been interrupted by a migraine around day 11 or 12. It takes a couple days to recoup from the migraine, and by that time I've totally given up. Tomorrow being the first of the month I think I will start anew! This time with the Kirtan Kriya, I hope it will be gentler on my brain than the others... has anyone else had this problem of being interrupted, like by an illness? Thanks for sharing all your experience strength and hope, it is truly inspiring. Guest guest
Dear Elle/Ranjit, ####... has anyone else had this problem of being interrupted, like by an illness?'#### I'm sure, you are not the only one, - most women know it: for example menstruation can sometimes be like an illness and there are real other reasons like migraine or something else... The best way to handle it - in my eyes: don't judge yourself, start every time again and keep up :-) Wish you a good new start! Guest guest
Yes, I have been interupted many times. Mine is back and hip problems. They happen around with the period. I think I could treat them like not doing Sat Kriya and breath of fire during the moon cycle. That is, plan 20 day committments or committments around the moon cycle. My student just came in interupted by a back problem. Those strikes that the body makes as it resists the change process can be incapacitating. I always feel that when the body resists then I am making some headway in affecting the subconscious. I always wish I had alternative plans for when I am struck down by that physical resistance. I gave her another kriya that she could do now and hopefully she will return to her 40 day committment later. My will gets very weak when I can not finish 40 day committments too many times in a row. The problem with figuring out alternative plans when I feel that I am losing the battle is I am also not very creative or courageous. Then it is good to have outside support. - "~ elle d'orado ~" <ellester kundalini yoga Wednesday, July 31, 2002 10:00 AM 40-day meditations > Sat nam! > > Wow I am seeing that alot of people are doing 40-day meditations right now! > I guess it's time for me to make another attempt. > > Both times I have started a 40-day run (1st time Sat Kriya, 2nd time a > simple aura building exercise) they have been interrupted by a migraine > around day 11 or 12. I think the problems of heaviness and headaches experienced by some is probably linked to the improper distribution of the energy all throughout the body. We all know that meditation leads to enormous gain in energy, especially near the crown chakra and the ajna chakra. If all the chakras are functioning properly, the flow of energy will take place efficiently and all the body parts will be evenly energized. This means, if we energize one particular chakra, it would not lead to condensation of the energy in that particular chakra. The excess energy will be redistributed evenly. If we sense that the body is not driving up the energy, we can consciously work on driving the energy evenly throughout the body. It is called the pranic energization technique. Lie in the corpse pose. First, wiggle your toes on the right feet. Feel the tingling sensation ( or the prana flow) immediately after this around the feet. Drive this tingling sensation up mentally by pulling it up the right shin, the right knee, the upper thighs, the right-hips, right-belly, right-chest, right-arms, neck, right side of the face, right side of the skull and then back down from there to the toes on the right side of your body. You will feel gently throbbing all over the right side of your body, and you will feel the right side is more energized than the left side. Now repeat the above steps with the left side of your body. Then, combinedly do it on both the right and the left sides. THis in fact is one of the recommended treatments in pranic healing for cancer patients. The logic being that there is heavy congestion of energy in the cancerous region leading to vigorous growth of cells. In the beginning you will find that the tingling sensation shoots up for a while and stops. This is because of the blockages in your body in transmitting the energy. With conscious practise you can work on circulating this prana or driving up the tingling sensation all over the body. This is probably what is referred to as opening up the chakras, so that the energy distribution and redistribution is done harmonious without any hitch all throughout the body. Doing stretches before and after meditation makes sure that the channelization of energy is done properly by removing the blockages or opening up the chakras. This is probably why the physical fitness gained through yoga exercises is considered the basic and first step towards going up the yogic-path. During meditations in the mudra poses, one can sense the tingling sensation go up the hands as soon as the fingers make a contact. If you are sensitive and more aware, you will observe the tingling sensation reaching the crown chakra and the ajna chakra. If you will allow more time, you can sense the tingling sensation going down the body, to the toes and, then back up. It takes some time for the energy to be distributed. So, to avoid energy condensation around the ajna chakra ( which would lead up to a headache or heaviness ), be sure to chant slowly. Like, Saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Taaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa instead of, a quick and rapid sa ta na ma. To try and be aware of the sensations when you touch the fingers and chant the meditation, take time to do it. And, when you do it slowly, you will also be able to track the path of the tingling sensation as it goes up different parts of your head on its way to the crown chakra, thereby energizing different parts of the brain. And, different parts of the brain control the functioning of the different parts of your body ( there are brain maps available on the web somewhere). The Gnana mudra, for instance, with the index finger involved intensely energizes the ajna chakra or the pituitary glands ( which is the seat of knowledge and intuitive power ). This is why different fingers are used in the meditation, and depending upon the extent to which you use these different finger- touches, different parts of the brain will be correspondingly energized. gayathri Health - Feel better, live better http://health. Guest guest
Dear Elle, > Both times I have started a 40-day run (1st time Sat Kriya, 2nd time a > simple aura building exercise) they have been interrupted by a migraine > around day 11 or 12. It takes a couple days to recoup Both these meditations, plus KY in general raise your energy. If you lhave too much energy in your head you can get a headache. > Tomorrow being the first of the month I think I will start anew! This meditation works in the head too, but you can avoid the migraines by staying present to your feelings in your body. Although I think you will be ok with Kirtan Kryia if done consciously, you might wish to start out with a set or meditation that keeps you more focused on the lower chakras. Then you will have a base for raising your energy. Or do some KY before hand, at least spinal flexes. And end with deep relaxation being present in your body. All energy needs to be raised and then distributed to the lower centers again, so where you start is up to you. Kirtan Kryia can be very soothining if you stay present in your body. Guest guest
Sat nam! My very best wishes to you on your upcoming meditations. I recently completed my first 40-day meditation, Shabd Kriya. I am now up to about 50 days, and plan to continue this meditation every night until . . . who knows!!?? There are occasions when I have a difficult time (mentally) remaining within the mind and breath, so after a few minutes I let myself end the meditation. I truly look forward to my meditation time and make sure to continue my daily meditation practice, even if it can be for only few minutes, and even if it's late and I'm tired. I hope you are able to reap many benefits of a 40 day (or longer) meditation! ~Kerry Kundaliniyoga, "~ elle d'orado ~" <ellester@h...> wrote: > Wow I am seeing that alot of people are doing 40-day meditations right now! > I guess it's time for me to make another attempt. >
Guest guest
Sat Nam, The usual reason a 4o day meditation is interrupted by an illness, especially things like migraines or aches and pains or funtional ailments of different kinds is quite simple: detoxification of the nervous system. For most North Americans there is a great deal of stress held in the parasympathetic nervous system/vegatative system which the body has adpated to having and thus does not easily release. Migraines and inflammations and "viruses" are often the nervous system releasing that stress in response to the meditation.....thus proving the efficacy of the meditation and the tendency for all kundalini yoga meditations to push the body/mind towards wholeness and throw out to the surface whatever gets in the way. Such a response to meditation is therefore a success. People simply often don't realize how much stress they've internalised and where it has gone. Try going on a sattvic diet when you start, just fruit etc... real light, just a thought.: I'm sure you've tried alot of things. Hang in there.
