emotional turmoil.I lost someone very near to me.Anyway, could anyone tell me the

procedure of 40 day meditation..like what time to get up and what mantra to

Sat Nam Jyoti,

We missed you ;-)

Pick a meditation you want to do, like Kirtan Kriya, get up every morning

between

3 am and 7am -some say until 8 am. There is a meditation specifically to heal a

'broken' heart that's been posted here, and there may be others.

I eat as much sattvic as possible, fruit mainly, and salad is good. Start with

what your body/head will handle and work up, start 11 mins, work up to 2.5 hrs.,

goal

is 40 days. The sky is the limit.

Blessings and group hug

Though not explicitly required it is very, very helpful to have done something

to still the pranas (motions, emotions and commotions) of the body/mind before

meditation. A deep yoga set is ideal but at minimum some warm ups or even

exercise will help. The purpose of Yoga is to deepen and make fuller the breath.

When

this happens the mind is ready to meditate. See the next email giving info from

Swami Rama on Japji

Sat Nam Brad,

Thanks for the meditation tip...next question...since I am starting

40 day meditation so I want to do it in order with no mistake..

Since it is difficult sometimes to wake up at that hour so can the

prayer be done in the evening too like between 3 and 7 pm? Second

whichever prayer I recite, should I count the number of times I recite

or just recite without any focus on number? I mean what is more

important ---focus on mantra or the number of times ,its recited?

Thanks again in advance..

Sat Nam Jyoti-

The recommended times are early morning hours (also called ambrosial

hours). From what I've read, those hours are recommended due to the

relatively small amount of negativity around (versus once everyone

else is up and going about their business). However, if I'm mistaken

on this reason, someone please correct me.

I too have trouble getting up at that hour. About 3 days a week I get

up around 6-6:30 and do a quick warm-up and then meditate for about

15 minutes or so, and that comprises the bulk of my AM sadhana.

However, everynight I do a full kriya plus my meditations (I'm

currently working on 2). I've been doing the vast majority of my

practices in the evenings and have still noticed wonderful effects

within myself. So, based on my experience, I don't think the times of

day are critical. What is critical is that at some point during the

day you make the time to do your practice. If you can work up to the

morning hours, wonderful. But if not, don't just give up. Still do it

during the hours that work best for you now.

It can, but try to do it in the morning before you start your day.

Do it for 11 minutes or 11 times depending on what you are dong.

Focus on the mantra.
