Guest guest
Sat Nam everyone, I remember awhile back someone asking how long it should take to get one's spiritual name because they had been waiting about a year... I wrote to the address given and explained that I was just beginning and that if it was appropriate at this stage to receive a spiritual name that I would like one. I wasn't sure, because some traditions do the renaming process early on, as a form of new beginning and transformation and others like you to wait until you "deserve" a name. Anyway, last week I got a beautiful letter with a name for me! I love the way it is written: "...He has blessed you to live as Amar Kaur, the princess who is deathless; beyond time." It is meaningful to me that it says "to live as". It gives much more meaning to having a spiritual name for me - not just a new name, but a renewed way of life. Anyway, I was very happy and I was wondering if it is appropriate to send a thank you? Or is that weird? I am just so grateful to feel more a part of this wonderful spiritual tradition.... Also, since we are suppose to meditate on our spiritual names - how does one go about that? Especially one like mine - "beyond time" and "deathless" are some deep meditations - I've done Buddhist meditations on this type of topic before, but maybe there is a different way in KY? And one more question before I stop babbling - I was looking at Yoga Journal the other day - does anyone know if this is a good magazine? Are there any that are more in tune with KY topics? I get the Shambala Sun, which is a nice Buddhist magazine, I was wondering if there is something similar for KY. Thanks! Amy (Amar Kaur) P.S. I don't remember who it was that was still waiting for their name, but perhaps you should write again. Maybe your request never got there....it took less than a month for mine - but I do remember someone writing that Yogi Bhajan was sick sometime back, right? So, you're right, it could have something to so with that....I hope it works out for you! Amy M. Rozlilek aroz
Guest guest
Hi there, Congratulations on your new name and destiny. It is a very powerful thing to get a name from a Master like Yogibhajan because he can give you name for many different reasons. When you use you spiritual name it brings you closer to who you are in the depths of your soul and helps with the karma in this lifetime and many more. It cuts through so much. It is not weird to send a thank you note or to communicate with your teacher . He loves it. It is recommended that you send a donation or a gift to the teacher for blessing you and giving you the direction that you need. When I got my name I felt so happy and blessed because I knew that it was who I could be in my highest destiny. I am so happy for you! That magazine you recommend is excellent as far as I am concerned but Aquarian Times covers Kundalini yoga and 3HO almost exclusively if that's what you are interested in. The more your name is called the stronger your destiny becomes. It is great sometimes to sit and simply chant your name like you are chanting long satnam's. It feels wonderful and centering keep up sir khalsa
Guest guest
Sat Nam Gurubir and Rama and all... Hey..we're back on one of my favorite subjects....living the truth! How do I live my destiny? I have a student who recieved the name Siri Karm, meaning Great Destiny, we have such a laugh about this..because she was hoping that her spiritual name would give her some insight into her destiny...not more questions!!! I do not have any insight on Gurubir....but I have a comment. I had asked earlier if anyone was seeing a trend in the kind of names being given lately? Just from what I have heard on line here and the people around me recieving names there seem to be three categories of which these names are falling into... We have the people up holding the teachings of the Guru....we have our spiritual warriors and we have our people who can relate to the realm of bliss and come back to tell about it, creating vision for the future. Some of the names people have mentioned lately, I've never heard before....so if you feel inclined to share your name with us..tell us of the meaning that it holds. Guest guest
Ok, I feel inclined. You pulled my leg Sat Sangeet! My name means princess whose essence eliminates negativity and generates new growth. What a blessing. When I first requested my spiritual name, I mainly did it out of curiosity. I didn't fully understand the significance of it. Yet the day I first read the name, it blew me away. I felt (and still feel) honored and humbled to have such a gift. Many blessings to all, Shiv Antar Kaur > Some of the names people have mentioned lately, I've never heard > before....so if you feel inclined to share your name with us..tell > us of the meaning that it holds. > > All Light, > Sat Sangeet > --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
SAT NAM karin!! you are ready!! right now! love! sat mander s. --- "muskegmama2 <karin_wigen" <karin_wigen schrieb: Sat Nam all, I have been reading the posts about spiritual names these last few days and I am intrigued by the idea. But, being fairly new to Kundalini Yoga, I would feel presumptuous asking for one myself at this point. Do you have to "earn" the privilege somehow? Or do you just know intuitively when you are ready to ask for/receive one? Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful insights. Guest guest
Sat Nam Karin, A spiritual name isn't anything you need to earn or deserve..it's an insight into your destiny and how you can fully live in Truth. My teacher said something to us once in class about...having knowledge of the Cosmos and not sharing it, was worse karmically for you, then remaining ignorant of True reality. I took that to heart...and didn't ask for a spiritual name until I knew I was committed to living my destiny, whatever it might be....to have knowledge of my destiny, but not to strive for it, seemed karmically worse for me. Other's might argue how do I know what to strive for..if I don't know what my destiny is? So I guess you're right..intuitively, you will know when to ask. When I recieved my spiritual name, I went into a bit of a crisis...Yogi Bhajan had opened pandora's box for me, by giving me that name....at the time it was like having salt water poured on a open wound...in hindsight I was blessed...at the time I was freaked! So be prepared either way....some people have told stories on line of how they completely were able to embrace there name and see it already working in their life....while others felt they grew into it in time.....everybody's experience is different I would imagine. You can search the archives on Spiritual names for these stories if you like. Blessings, Sat Sangeet
