Guest guest
Sat nam! I'm catching up on some posts I missed! Sorry if someone else answered this already... Gayathri asked what the names of the bandhas are: Mula bandha: root lock -- corresponds to the Brahma granthi Uddiyana bandha: torso lock ("flying up") -- Vishnu granthi Jalandhara bandha: chin lock -- Rudra granthi (or Shive granthi) The granthis are natural "knots" or blocks along the sushumna nadi/spinal column that keep the Kundalini from raising, before one is ready for that. Guest guest
Ranjit Kaur, I read that Yogi Bhajan said be sure to maintain the throat lock or you will get a headache from something like Sat Kriya. Do you suppose he meant that we are not ready for the full force of the energy rising from Sat Kriya so keep the root lock? We want to open the diaphram lock so that the energy from the lower triangle will rise. Are we tightening it so that the pressure will build below and then opening it to let the energy rise? Our culture encourages very tightly held stomach muscles. Do you think this blocks the rise of the kundalini. Also, I have heard that the diaphram can be "tight" so no energy rises. What is this about. Since I can't feel the diaphram, it is hard to imagine. But, recently I have been doing a pranayama that involves 3 minute intervals of BOF. I have a hard time making my BOF really a strong pump that makes a lot of noise. Perhaps this is a result of weakness and also tightness of the diaphram. Guest guest
Satnam, Sat kriya is very powerful and the bhands help with containing and distributing the energy so that the nervous system can handle the energy and the changes that come with this practice. Most people's diaphragms are tight in the beginning. We keep so much fear in there! The more we do exercises like spinal flexes, camel pose ect. on a regular basis it can relieve and relax this area. Some people have had rolfing ( a form of deep massage) on the diagraphm to clear this area but I don't know much about this. peace sir khalsa
