Guest guest
Sat nam, I find that when I chant mantras I have trouble focusing. I enjoy stilling the mind and diving deep into meditation and the unknown. However, when I chant a mantra it is as though I am so caught up in forming the words that my mind bounces off of them and wanders. I enjoy the movements of the yoga and just letting my body absorb these. However, when I add the words it doesn't seem as powerful for me. Any ideas on this? Perhaps it would be better if I knew what the words meant. But then wouldn't I be trying to control the thoughts and the journey? Guest guest
Sat Nam Heidi, "have trouble focusing. I enjoy stilling the mind and diving deep into meditation and the unknown. However, when I chant a mantra it is as though I am so caught up" --I don't have a problem focusing when I meditate, but I find when I do lots of BOF, pranayam before I meditate (say 15 20mins) my focus is still better. I had trouble with mind wandering too, initially, my teacher suggested waiting for the first errant thought then 'labeling' it as thinking, or 'car' or 'old friend' or what ever. That way you are aware when you are off mantra. Blessings Brad
