Sat Nam All,

Could some one please describe in great detail exactly how one is to sit in

virasana for the Wahe Guru chant in the Aquarian Sadhana? Directions say:

sit on left heel, right leg bent with foot close to body, hands in prayer

pose. I watch at solstice, and people are all over the map with this one.

I'm assuming for men and women, the position is a bit different, since our

anatomy is not the same. I've been told the left heel for a man is in the

perineum, and for a woman on the clitoris. Pressure on clitoris sends sexual

energy upward, much like applying mulbhand. Coulter's book on Anatomy of

Hatha Yoga describes various heel placements and even suggests that women

should not sit this way at all. I've even heard about a "wedgie" cushion.

Placement of the heel, I've found, greatly affects the center of balance in

this pose. If my heel (since I'm a woman) is placed up front (clitoris),

then I have to have cushioning in back to raise buttocks to maintain balance.

Is this okay? Placement for me of the heel at the base of the spine, more

toward the back of the perineum results in better unsupported balance. I've

even put the left heel on the bottom of the pelvic bone (sitting bone), but

this doesn't seem right.

I've experimented over the years with slightly different positions. Where is

the center of balance supposed to be in this pose? Are you pitched forward

as I often see or have a spine perpendicular to the ground? With 20+ minutes

of meditation in this pose, it seems only appropriate to ask for details. I

know YB says that KY is a self-adjusting yoga and, over the years, I've found

what works for me, I just don't know if its correct.

People have been talking about raising kundalini. I've had very profound

effects (tremors, heat [involuntary contractions that actually feel like

giving birth--only in reverse with energy upwards instead of down]) in this

posture, mainly when emphasizing the "wha" part of the mantra and pulling the

navel with it. Anyone else have any thoughts on this? Thanks.

All love surround you,

Angad Kaur
