Guest guest
Hi I've been reading the list for a few weeks now and have just started practicing Kundalini Yoga. I am wondering what the standard advice is regarding the Moon Cycle and practice. The reason I ask is that I was planning to attend a class this evening, and I have just begun the Moon Cycle today. Thanks for your help. Lori Worley
Guest guest
Sat Nam Lori! Welcome to the list. The amount of practice during your moon cycle is pretty individual. Its been discussed periodically over the past few months (that's all the longer that I've been a memeber). Some sources say to avoid anything that works with the muscles in the lower abdomen, which usually includes BOF (breath of fire), leg lifts, stretch pose, etc. Others don't have a problem during the moon cycle and continue. Personally, I can tell, through yoga, when I'm going to start my moon cycle. For me, I can't do anything intense in the lower part of my body starting about 3 days before my moon cycle begins and lasting for about 3 days into my moon cycle. However, around day 4, I can begin to do my 'normal' routine and don't have any problems. So it's all personal. If you are just starting out, you may want to 'take it easy' until you get a feel for your body and how it reacts. If you feel fine doing certain asanas, then continue. But when you notice you have difficulty (for my it's sharp cramps) then stop. Return to what was comfortable for you to do. Typically the advice during the moon cycle is less focus on the physical parts of the kriya (asanas) and more focus on meditation. Hope that helps! Guest guest
Thanks Christa. Last month I did a class and started the Moon Cycle a couple of hours later. It was heavier than usual for the first three days - I'm not sure if this is good or bad, but it was certainly inconvenient! Thanks for the rapid response.
