Guest guest
Hello, I had the Klez virus inoculating my PC with the Elkern-D. It means the exe files are destroyed and you have to reinstall as many softwares as you need. More over, now some intelligent virus just jump from IE6 down to your computer. You can check this when the active frame in Outlook spontaneously swaps from the mails list down to the reading frame. It then activates an automatic download of the attachment. You briefly see a poping window which is the download signature. It is then too late. The virus also deactivates some anti-virus like PC-trend PC-Cillin and you have to take care of this. This way I got 266 files infected ! Unfortunately, the Klez is memory resident, and the new PC-Cillin version by PC-Trend automatically sets up the Real-Time scan. And then, you'd better uncheck this option because two snails pulling in opposite direction are quicker than the poor computer slowing down to naught. The best solution I could find was to make a special directory for the mails I should read. The incoming mail is alphabetically sorted, then perused. The mails to read are dragged to the new directory. For the others, Ctl A and Suppress. There is however a danger. When you dragdrop one mail, he next one becomes automatically active. If it contains a virus, too late ! Most virus come from Russia or/and porn stuff you never asked. I had to reinstall totally Windows 2000 Pro three times in ten days. You imagine the chore. Even the specialized DOS programs cant look at the files in use by the system. So here we have the ideal hiding place. Some of the hints to know you are infected are : - your computer is progressively slowing down - some specifications are no more held : my Photoshop was becoming dummy. - the Explorer doesn't work as before Autumnal flu is still ahead, but computer virus are becoming more and more resistant and clever. I'll be glad to read your best solutions, since this is of interest for any list.
