Server Debacle

Hi to All

 

This is an update regarding the present situation.

 

On Wednesday this week, David, who owns the hosting company that looks after

our Internet services, was working on the main server. He mistakenly deleted

a systems directory which put everything offline.

 

Normally, this would not be a major problem, but just a matter of running a

restore from his backup disk, a procedure which would take several hours to

complete, to get everyone's site up and running again.

 

However, during a recent upgrade, carried out by the company who supply the

server, they managed to (unknowingly) introduce incompatibilities between

the backup drive and the main system. These incompatibilities did not reveal

themselves during normal testing.

 

The net result is that the disk data could not be read. The disk unit has

been sent out to a data recovery company for specialist treatment and

repair. Normally this would take 1-2 days plus transit times there and back.

However, we have the weekend and then the Labor Day holiday on Monday. . .

 

The disk is due back Wednesday, and then it will take several hours to

reinstall the data on the system. Then we should be up and running again.

 

Currently I can send email via my cable service. I can't receive any emails

sent to me at this address. We have a temporary notice on all the sites

telling visitors to come back next Wednesday. All autoresponders are

offline.

 

My email service should be restored by this evening. Today I am going to

upload a temporary page to the Yoga Tech site explaining to visitors that we

are down but not defeated! :-)

 

It remains to be seen how much damage has been done to our search engine

listings by our period of absence.

 

I am sorry if this has been a little technical, but I have tried to keep it

in as simple terms as possible. Those of you who are d to both the

KY Training and main KY lists will receive 2 copies of this message.

 

I can only reiterate Gururattan's words, that by using the positive force of

our group consciousness, perhaps the energy can be shifted and the drive

fixed sooner and shipped back earlier. Anything that you can all do to help

in this will be more than appreciated. Our online services are used by many

thousands of people each week, and are going to be sorely missed during

their absence. Let's put out our thoughts and wishes to make this absence as

brief as possible.

 

I will update everyone when I hear any further news from David.
