Guest guest
Does anyone know of herbal remedies that can replace Ritalin for the treatment of ADHD? My son has been on Ritalin for years, plus he has to take Remeron to help him sleep because of the effects of the Ritalin. Now that he's in college he wants to stop taking his medications which he says he's addicted to and replace it with a natural treatment. Any suggestions? Guest guest
I am sure you are aware that he would need to be weaned from the meds gradually. I believe the Herbal Healer Academy has a homeopathic combination for ADHD. http://www.herbalhealer.com BTW, I have been diagnosed with ADHD since I have been 14 years old. Yoga can help a great deal. I am classified as severe (I was just re-evaluated)and will not, nor have I ever taken medication for it. I am often one of the mysterious "control" people mentioned in various studies. I still managed to earn an AA, BS, MS, and I am taking a break before pursuing my PhD. I am a biologist and college instructor, even though I have virtually no short-term memory. The point is that maybe everyone is not meant to perceive and process the world the same way. We know believe that Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and Albert Einstein (who couldn't remember his own phone number) all had ADD or ADHD. Believe it or not, some of us find ADHD to be a gift, creativity comes as easily as the breath, innovation is our second nature. Dee

Guest guest
Dear Hansmukh Kaur, I have read that homeopathic remedies used to support constitutional changes can help with problems such as ADHD. Also, my Chinese herbal teacher (previously she had taught special children) felt strongly that herbs not drugs should be used to approach these difficulties. In either case, a professional must personally see your son and work with him over a long period. An herb or remedy can't be easily assigned since they are chose based on the subtle detail of his case. Your son is of an age when he can understand what he is doing, so that is helpful. Guest guest
Satnam David, Keep up, there are ways to cope with this problem. My solution to most problems with the brain and the mind is Kirtan kriya otherwise known as the Sa ta na ma meditation. I am not attention deficit but was always scattered mentally. I did this meditation as a teenager and it fixed me in amazing ways.It not only readjust, realign and connected the neurons?in my brain but calmed my nervous system at the same time. This meditation connects the missing links in the brain that did not get connected and thus causes us problems. It is a great meditation therefore, for bringing about emotional balance. This meditation can be found in the Sadhana Guidelines and most kundalini beginners manual. It might also be on the kundaliniyoga web page. This meditation is my best friend and I hope you try it. s.i.r.khalsa
Guest guest
Dear Hansmukh Kaur a other members that asked, Dr Mercola http://www.mercola.com has a lot of information about this condition in his website. I did a search ADHD and many documents appeared. One example is: http://www.mercola.com/2002/jul/20/adhd.htm Also this website is very good to learn about health http://www.alternativemedicine.com A search brought the following article. http://www.alternativemedicine.com/AMHome.asp?cn=Catalog&act=GetProduct&crt= ProductKey=1144&style=\AMXSL\ArticleDetail.xsl This site also lists alternative doctors and clinics. My personal experience tells me that it is very good to learn as much as one can but it is much better to also have a good natural doctor. Both are very professional websites that have helped me a lot to cope with a serious health problem we have had at home for a few years. I am also a member of an alternative health where you can put questions. Some doctors are also members and they are helpful. I don't know if it is appropriate to post it here, so email me privately and I will send you the address. I hope it helps, Núria - "hansmukh_kaur" <cougarshaman <Kundaliniyoga> Tuesday, September 10, 2002 11:07 PM ADHD & Natural alternatives > Does anyone know of herbal remedies that can replace Ritalin for the > treatment of ADHD? > > My son has been on Ritalin for years, plus he has to take Remeron to > help him sleep because of the effects of the Ritalin.
