Guest guest
hi group, I am trying since a long time to practice KY everyday. Now I am at my 7th day and I don¹t know why, but it feels harder everyday. I'v attempt to do it many times, but around the 4th or 5th day I always find a way to not do it. The problem I have right now it to stay FOCUSED. When I do the different krya I still think of what I have to do after, what I should be doing. It gets really hard and after my practice I just feel like it was a waist of time since I wasn't focused the whole way. is there anything I can do to help my mind be more quiet, and help me focus on one thing at a time? Also, I am trying to work mostly on the base chakra & the spine, but now I see problem arysing in the heart center area. My breath is not deep during practice, like if I would be stuck around the sternum, also sometimes there is pressure there. Even if I keep breathing it stays during practice... ufff, that was a lot many thanks, and sat nam, m-c

Guest guest
Sat Nam m-c There are a couple of things that you might want to try. First, search the archives for some posts from Pieter on breathing. There are several posts about some breathing exercises that his class does before doing any ky. The breathing helps to quiet the mind allowing you to focus easier. Next, try to keep the mind quiet during each posture. I sometimes have the problem you are describing. I'll be in the middle of a posture and my mind starts thinking about something that happened at work or something my kids said, or whatever. When that happens I change my focus back to the Sat Nam mantra that I usually say when doing each asana (Sat on the inhale and Nam on the exhale). Another thing I do is to feel the energy in my body as I do each posture. Meaning, as I'm in cobra pose, for example, feel the pull on my abdomen and up to my throat. Feel the breath in my body and 'watch' the energy as it flows through me. Usually by doing those two things, my mind stays 'busy' and focused on the here and now and not the future or past. I also find that when I get my mind focused on each individual kriya as I'm doing it, the benefits from the yoga are increased 10 fold. It makes a huge difference for me. I'm much more calm and peacefull afterwards. And those effects are my motivition to do it again the next day. Hope that helps!
