Guest guest
I had earlier replied to a mail on coffee addiction, and how similar such addictions affect breathing ( this is probably good to know when you seek solutions to de-addict ). This part of the mail is here again: > > Additionally, coffee has nasal dilatory properties. > After drinking a cup of coffee, the nostrils dilate > a bit, making breathing more easy and relaxing > Hence, the 'good' relaxing feeling after drinking > a cup of coffee. However, the nasal dilatory feature > is only temporary. After a while, the nostrils > begin to contract, and contract more than the > original size before drinking the cup of coffee. > This makes the breathing more difficult and the body > has less supply of energy, and therefore one tends > to get tense. Now, to relax again, one is > desperate to grab another cup of coffee as this will > force the nostrils to be dilated once again. This > leads to an addictive effect. In fact, most of > the addictives, like drugs and such, work > fundamentally > in this manner. Through proper deep breathing > sessions, one can control and gradually eliminate > addiction to any such substance. > ------------------- One of the easier ways to control addiction to drugs/smoking/coffee is probably to work on your breathing. Whenever you tend to feel the "weakness" to go for these "bad guys", you may try the following breathing exercise. Inhale deeply and slowly, pause, and then exhale deeply and slowly ( by gradually pulling in your lower belly ). When you near the end of exhalation, forcefully pull in your navel and lower belly, to exhale forcefully at the end. This will automatically, also, squeeze the anus and the genitals more, increasing the strength in the pelvic and anal regions. This forceful pumping at the end of exhalation will make sure all the carbondioxide(toxin) gets out of your system, and so is a very powerful technique to cleanse your system. REMEMBER, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO BREATHE-IN OXYGEN WELL, BUT ALSO VERY IMPORTANT iS TO BREATHE_OUT THE CARBON-DIOXIDE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. You can also do the extra pep-thing while inhaling, i.e., inhale slowly, deeply, and fully, and when you near the end of inhalation, inhale a little more forcefully by forcefully pushing out the sides of the chest ( as the belly and the front of the chest are already pushed out). This way you will have a lot of oxygen intake ( and your mind control/brain functioning is also better). You can try this simple, but very powerful, trick in inhaling and exhaling while doing the yoga exercises too, and all thoroughout the day as you breathe in and out. You may also practise the above slow deep breathing for LONGER DURATION by slowly and gradually pulling in and out the perineum ( the region between the anus and the genitals ). This will enhance the breathing capacity tremendously. Also, it will work out all the muscles in the pelvic region very well keeping the excretory and reproductive systems in good health. The result is more oxygen supply to the brain, less amount of toxins hanging out within your body, and so all the body parts work more efficiently. If you deep breathe like this unconsciously throughout the day, you can improve on your addiction vastly. Hope this helps. Gayathri P.S: BTW, is my quit-smoking-research buddy, Nick, still around?
