Guest guest
Several people have asked me about Master's Touch, so I'll just give a little description. This year it was held at the GhostRanch, about 40miles from Espanola. It's a breathtakingly beautiful place, but if anyone is planning to go next year at that location at this time of year I'd advise them to take lots of warm blankets. The cabins and classroom were unheated - the classroom floor is conrete covered by a carpet and during Sadhana on cold mornings it was a real trial. I feel the cold more than most, but others found it difficult too. Warm coat , hat and gloves essential. My other trail was an allergy to the water, or the minerals in it. I got a rash, and luckily had Benedryl with me. Other people were also affected, but again not as badly as me as far as I know. I brought bottled water to drink, as it is very expensive at the shop there. Some people were fine drinking the water, but in view of the rash I wasn't willing to risk it. The classes were WONDERFUL. We didn't have a minute to ourselves our time was so booked. Yogi Bhajan was scheduled to lecture to us three times but he ended up lecturing to us most evenings, which made us all feel extremely blesssed. He is obviously very unwell, but it didn't stop him being driven up to welcome us the first evening. Most evenings we were bussed down to Espanola, and most of the Sikh community turned out to join us. He had been in seclusion for about a year and everyone was thrilled to see him again. Bibiji also lectured us several times, and told us that YB spent his days gathering his strength before lecturing us in the evenings, and then would pretty much collapse afterwards. She is a lovely woman and told us lots of entertainng stories about him. Everyone had their favourite part of the course, and I would be hard put to choose one as better than another. But I feel I learned the most in a practical sense from the postures course. We all ended up feeling we didn't know how to do yoga, but we were given a method we could apply to any exercise. Guru Prem Singh led the course and was extremely generous with his advice and time, staying during his breaks, lunchtime and after class to answer questions and offer help. I've always felt the failing of the KY books is in the lack of description of how to do exercises correctly, and this course really addressed this problem. The good news for those not lucky enough to attend this course is that Guru Prem is bringing out a book on how to do postures, which should be out by next Solistice. It might be a good idea to keep an eye on his website www.cherdikala.com. The course is wonderful. Anyone thinking of going should do it. The first week is hard, between gettting used to the elevation, sleep deprivation and getting rid of the negativity which surfaces from hidden regions. This course is about transformation, and one should be prepared for that. The rewards are enormous, and given the amount we assimilated in such a short space of time it will be some time before the effects can be properly assessed. As one of the old timers in Espanola said to me the day after the course ended it was like being in Tantric for three weeks - Yoga Boot Camp was how he put it ! Marvellous. If anyone has more specific question about the course feel free to contact me off list. Love and many blessings to all, Avtar ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
Thanks for sharing your MT story, Avtar. I really enjoyed Guru Prem Singh's classes as well, but my favorite instructor at the course (hard to pick one!) was Gurucharan Singh from Boston. If you ever get a chance, definitely take a class from him! He led us in some of the most powerful meditations I have ever practiced. He mentioned teaching classes at MIT and BU.
