Hi Christa,

During my Kundalini class, I had a "'classsmate'' who was 8 years old

and who attended lessons with his mum...this really adorable boy who

seemed like he really enjoyed it, and the teacher said that it was good

to start kids young...not sure about some of the tougher sets though, I

am curious to know what's the limit for kids myself. P>S You should see

him try and do BOF, he was really cute and he looked like he was having

great fun.

Sat Nam Christa,

At Master's Touch they taught us that children shouldn't do Kundalini Yoga

under the age of 12 because of the many effects that this yoga has on the

glands, and it may interfere with the pace of certain glandular development.

However, there are some teachers who specialize in KY for children whose

classes wouldn't pose a problem since they are trained which kriyas and

meditations are "safe" for them. So I wouldn't take her to an adult class

but look into courses for children with qualified teachers. Maybe you could

send her to Hatha classes until she is older?

Christa,

There is also a book by a student of Yogi Bhajan on kundalini yoga for

children (with lots of photo how-to's). I can't remember the name of

the author, but my local library has it, so you may be able to find it

at yours. (It may be on Amazon.com, as well.)

Thanks for the feedback everyone. You've pretty much confirmed my own

personal instinct. I did get her a yoga for kids video. But she likes

doing 'mommy's yoga'. The hatha classes were another thought I had,

if ky wasn't appropriate for her age. I will also check out the book

recommendation. I wasn't aware there was one just for kids.

Thanks again!

Sat nam everyone,

The topic of kids and kundalini is on the board so I figured I would add a

few words while running out the house. Our two girls go to Yoga camp every

year and they do yoga. Ranjit is right you should not do certain sets ectera

because there glands are not ready. Mulbhand, Sat kriya, and breath of fire

I was told should not be done until you were 13. I raised the question

recently about the age to start bof which I heard was 13 and did not get a

response so I am sticking to the 13 yr mark for my kids.At camp directed by

YB the kids do stretches that are basic to Ky bow pose rock pose, camrl lot

of spinal flexes ect. You can give a kid a realy good work out and keep them

strong and limber and get them to understand they are doing yoga
