Guest guest
Hello David, You are doing good having bought this book. It's one of my three most used books (the other being Transitions to a Heart Centered World and The Ancient Art of Self Healing). In summary, this is what I do. Some of the below is not in the book. - I awake and before I start ruminating about the day before me I do "stretch pose" for a minute or so to set my navel point. If I arise at 3:15 am my mind is not busy at all. - I then gag using a powder mad of 2 parts Alum, one part salt I do this to remove mucus accumulation and does wonders to clear my sinus cavity. - The I massage my entire body with olive or Almond oil, depending on season. I put on swim shorts and proceed with a cold shower doing breath of fire. Do not let cold water hit the top of your head. You can ease body into this with cold water first hitting the extremities, then face, navel point, back and then entire body in that order. Step in and out as you need, all the time doing BOF and rubbing your body. This is so good for your nervous system, parasympathetic especially. - Dry off, get dressed in a light color - and prepare to "tune in". The book will instruct you from this point on. - You might want to do some Pranayam to awaken the inner channels. - If you haven't done Yoga before then I suggest the basic spinal series. It's a good way to start. This and/or a basic navel series. (Nabhi Kriya in Transitions). - Layout for 5 -10 minutes - Do a chanting meditation for 11 minutes or more. I would recommend one of the Sadhana CD's. (cgi-bin/start.cgi/kysadhana.html) I like Aquarian Sadhana by Wahe Guru Kaur. This will integrate the right and left hemispheres and give you a chance to rejoice feel your heart. Sadhana Guidelines has a number of good meditations. Pick one with some melody. It's all very formulaic Salud, Dharam David Weaver wrote: > Hello, > > I am wanting to start a sadhana practice. I do not know anything about it or > which exercises to do. What do I do to prepare? Guest guest
Hello Dharm, Thank you for this informative post. With no previous yoga experience - my progress with everything seems quite slow -.. Learning the the reason for this or that makes it seem more logical. You mention "stretch pose" is that an actual pose or just a good stretch? Still have a hard time getting up early - that might help wake up and get up better. Do the cobra stretch to wake up and it helps somewhat. Found it interesting that there is a better time for using different oils depending on season. Can you elaborate? I've also heard of using sesame oil. Is there a season or reason for that? Also that a peanut oil rub helps with arthritis etc. Many thanks, Ruth - Dharam Singh - I awake and before I start ruminating about the day before me I do "stretch pose" for a minute or so to set my navel point. Guest guest
Hey there Ruth, Ayurveda recognizes that some oils are cooling, some neutral and some warming. Almond oil (and sesame, I think) is heating and so I would not necessarily want to use it in the summer when the cold water is already as warm as cool-down tea and the air temperatures are near 90. For summer a "light" olive oil works fine and is lower in cost. There is the classic wake series in Transitions to a Heart Centered World which includes Stretch Pose. It's the way to go. For more on setting the navel go to kundalini yogakyt07.html Sat Nam, Dharam P.S. When done, remember to give back. Sing the Long Time Sun ""Hello Dharm, Thank you for this informative post.
