Gayathri, This is clearing the "Monkey Glands". This is very similar to Jal Neti in its effect. One thing you didn't mention is that you must stimulate the gag reflex. That is when the effects take place. Sinuses also clear out. A mixture of 2 parts Alum, one part salt is what Yogiji has taught.
