Great voice

Often, because of my current living situation, I cannot chant loudly. In

Western magickal traditions, there is something called the "Great Voice"

which was traditionally used when a magician had to do work in secret for

fear of persecution. For things like vibrating the name of God, which are

usually done quite loud so that the whole Universe resonates with the

vibration, she whispers, but tries to feel the vibration all the same.

I was wondering if it would be okay if I use the same whisper w/ the

intention of vibration for my mantras? Unfortunately, it is much easier for

me to "stay in tune" and feel the words resonating within my body (and the

World) when I can get very loud with them (and sometimes when I am having a

ahrd time staying focused I never get silent at all, just keep chanting

loudly the whole time) but I am not able to do that right now.

Should I just expand the times so that whispering covers he normal out loud

time + the whispering time and keep the same amount of silence? That is what

I have been trying to do so far.

Hi Eric,

I was just relating to a friend how when I chant out loud, fearlessly and

confidently, my lower back and adrenals open up and I get a heat

release. This all begins with the opening of the diaphragm which allows a flow

through the heart center. When the heart center is integrated than

the energy flows like water overflowing a bucket, which then nourishes all

systems. I am big into making sounds...personally, and after having

fully projected I then go silent into Pranayama (20 - 20 - 20 breath) for 5 - 11

minutes. I like covering the full range. Additionally, if a

meditation is described as having to be done aloud, there might be a reason.

Also, sometimes we need to put a pressure, with our volume, on the

Thyroid/parathyroid glands in the neck

However, there are many meditations and Kriyas (Sodarshan Chakra Kriya being

the highest, according to Yogiji) that are meant to be done

silently. You can feel good about them silently as that is how they are supposed

to be done. Also, there are meditations that are chanted in a

normal speaking volume that can give me that same heat release ("the "Last

Meditation" from Transitions is what comes to mind). I would recommend

doing whatever you want but make sure your yoga is vigorous enough so that your

body and being can then be in silence...... a potent and receptive

silence. Use breath and give attention to the sensations.

Hope that helps some,

Dharam

P.S. Remember that song we all sang at camp... John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt?

His name is my name, too!

Whenever we go out,

The people always shout

There goes John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt!

Tra La La La La La La La (real loud)

Then we would whisper in a progressively lower volume but always shouting the

"Tra La La La La La La La" part. That is good way to work the eight

body and then the ninth body. Very much fun and good for the lower back and your

reserve energy.

Sat Nam Eric,

I've lost about 80-85% of my hearing and when I read your post I thought,

"His is just another kind of silence." Most of my chanting is done by feel.

How the bones in my face and throat resonate is what finally tells me if I've

got it right. By the way, this feels really cool if you can become aware of it!

Because of my deafness, I'm very volume concious. ( I have a deaf Uncle who

shouts all the time - most irritating, but he can't hear it.) I'm much more

prone to be too quiet as a result. I trust that God is clever enough to pick my

voice out of the crowd. Perhaps I can't hear myself call His Name, but He does

hear me.

Sat Nam Eric,

Sounds like you had a kundalini melt-down day like I did last week! YIPES!

One of the things I do to cope with my world is make t-shirts. I kno, it sounds

weird. But, on those days when the Universe is crashing in on me and I'm

certain that I'll NEVER evolve beyond well attired pond scum, I have one of my

favorites. It's a white crew neck with black lettering on the front that says:

KARMA'S BITCH BOY. Anyway, I put that on, it's like a yellow flag at the track!

People are a litlle gentler with me, they get the humor, I get the humor, God

gets the humor, and generally things begin to lighten up. Whatever means you

use, keep up your sense of humor!
