Guest guest
Hi, I read this recent post regarding thoughts from the past coming up during practice: I also experience these 2 really often. Images of places, people, or anything which is often many years ago, and I really wonder WHY are these images coming to me at a special moment? They are never related to what I am doing when the images come, and they aren't neither memories of events that touched me, so I really wonder... ....And I had a couple of ideas. These random thoughts seem to me to be messages from the subconscious trying to work their way out. I have been working with a Jungian-based therapist for the last year or so, and I have found my dreams at night to be a real working ground for this. I record my dreams, as I am able, either on paper or on a website with personal access only...And then discuss some of the major themes a few times a month with my therapist. Therapy is NOT necessarily a requisite here, but the key I think is in the recording of the dreams, which almost always involve events or themes from the past...And by doing so, I feel I have been successful in keeping these random thoughts and past recollections OUT of my yoga and meditation practice time. So get it out, on paper, if you can, and see if you are able to bypass some of the mental clutter during your own practice... Interesting thought. I had also begun recording my dreams on paper this year. I actually hadn't remembered any of my dreams in over 10 years. Then I began ky and all of a sudden I'm remembering 2-3 dreams a night. So, thinking it was somewhat related, or a strange coincidence, I began recording my dreams as well. My experience with this varies from yours however. For me, my dreams are rarely about my past. Actually, they're usually really strange. But by going back and reviewing them, I do see patterns and things that I apparently 'work' on in my dreams. So they have been helpful to me. However, I have still noticed that while doing yoga, I'll get images or thoughts pop in my head from nowhere. And usually they are past memories. The weird thing for me is none of the memories thus far have been traumatic, rather more like indifferent. I will also get flashes of images that I'm not familiar with. Faces of people I don't know or have never seen before. Not sure what those are all about. The other thing is that I'll get a song just pop into my head. Usually one that I haven't heard in a long time. I also will wake up very often with a song playing in my head. And I don't necessarily associate it to anything, but it usually sticks in my mind for several hours (I hate when that happens)! It's interesting to hear what others experience. Guest guest
Sat Nam. I can relate to some of the experiences that Akkama, M-C, Deborah and Christa described. After beginning ky practice I noticed that memories and impressions of things and events I hadn't thought of in years, or had entirely forgotten, would suddenly come up. Vividly, too. Generally they were pleasant and made me smile. My dreaming also changed. I usually remember dreams and often have dreams that seem meaningful or exotic, but some dreams in the past couple weeks have been atypical. There were dreams of great violence and gore. I'd wake up disturbed and puzzled, wondering where the heck those images came from. Oddly, at this same time the lower back pain I've lived with for the past seven years, which has progressively improved since I began doing ky, disappeared entirely at the time of the violent dreams. My guess is that first and second chakra energy was being released, recirculated, revealed... not sure how to express it. Another guess is that sudden memories arising may be related to effects of ky on different parts of the body. I learned, and believe it's true, that memories are stored in all parts of the body at a cellular level. There's so much stuff that happens during some kriyas that it takes a couple days for me to integrate all the results, and during this time different feelings and impressions arise. Overall, this process has been gentle and feels good. I often wake with songs in my head, too. Usually mantras, but other songs as well. For all I know, they were spinning around in there for some time before I actually opened my eyes! Well I can't claim anything quite as spiritually inspiring as mantras in my head. Mine are usually Disney songs -- this morning it was the Cruella DeVil song. Perhaps a tell-tale sign of the impact my kids have on my?! Oh well. Christa

I recently got Mata Mandir Singh's "Self Healing" CD and play it at work very softly. So softly I barely hear it. But I think it must soak in. Speaking of Disney songs, this reminds me of "Whistle While You Work" from Snow White. Having the music helps me keep an even keel during my hectic day. Show tunes and pop tunes also arise spontaneously. Sometimes I interpret this as my psyche sending my conscious mind a message cloaked in song. For example, around the time I was having violent dreams, Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" popped into my head one day as I was strolling along. And it refused to leave. ;-) Sat Nam Chris B spatialagent1 [spatialagent1] Wednesday, November 06, 2002 4:28 AM Kundaliniyoga Re: Thoughts of Past During Practice > I often wake with songs in my head, too.
