Guest guest
Sat Nam, I have been teaching Kundalini Yoga for 3 months now and have recently designed a series of classes whereby we study, discuss and then practice kriyas and meditations based upon the Chakras in ascending order. I currently have about 9 yoga manuals but can find no reference to KRIYAS, NOT meditations, geared specifically towards working the 5th Chakra. It seems that all references refer to chanting and certain meditations involving chanting, but NO PHYSICAL KRIYAS, i.e., postures, focusing on the 5th Chakra. I do understand that the 5th Chakra is about sound and being able to speak in balance and manifest one's will through speech, but surely there must be SOME exercises that go along with the Chanting! Help! I would greatly appreciate any input. Thanks, Mark
Guest guest
Hi Mark, I'm no teacher, in fact I've only been doing KY for about 3 months, but I just finished reading Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa's book "The Eight Human Talents" and she devotes a chapter to each Chakra. For the 5th, she suggests singing and chanting, but also shoulder shrugs, neck rolls, dog breath, and a pose she calls the "miracle bend" that stimulates the thyroid and parathyroid. You stand up, keeping the spine straight, clasping the hands together in front of the chest, extending the index fingers(just like in Sat Kriya) Inhale deeply through the nose, extending arms up and back overhead as you lean back at a 60 degree angle. Drop the head back putting a stretch on the throat. Keep the hands clasped together. Exhale through the nose as you return to original position. Also, I've found the fish pose (in Gururattan's spinal set really opens my throat chakra. Hope that helps. Guest guest
The Teacher's Manual recommends Kadma Panth Kriya ("Possible Human Manual"), Wha Guru Kriya ("Meditation Manual for Intermediate Student"), and For Creativity ("Physical Wisdom"). Gurutattan's "Sexuality & Spirituality" has 6 kriyas (starting at Thyroid & Throat Center) which focus in that area. Blessings, Sadhant
Guest Guest
Satnam ji! there are a few out there for sure, but look at its this way... Look for any, kriya, or meditation that works the thyroid/parathyroid, as it is the actual glad that corresponds to the 5th C. Truly though, the power of the 5th C is experienced through vibration, nothing will be as good as mantra. Hope this helps! blessings
