Chanting

Hi lovely Kundalini Yoga people,

having taken note of several previous posts on chanting and pronunciation, I

picked up on something interesting to me.

I noticed that in the act of chanting, where the tongue makes contact inside

your mouth, and where the various muscles involved (vocal chords, tongue, etc)

contract and relax, different areas of the brain are activated.. different

messages sent. In the Druid's tradition, it's quite commonplace (these days) to

chant what's known as the Awen. It comes out as a very long drawn out word,

with the welsh pronunciation, so the w, comes out like an ooooh.. it comes out

thus:

Aaaaaaaaaaahooooooooooohwwweeeee - (long drawn out e sound, as in "then") -

nnnnnn

usually it's repeated three times, and if it's done in a large group, the

voices all tend to cascade into each other. The effects are stunning.. it

leaves a definite.. *something*.. hanging in the air just above the head.

I was just wondering - what do you think the Awen chant does?

Samhain blessings,

- Magpie /|\

Sat Nam Jamie,

I don't think we've met, but I thought your post re/ chanting was

interesting. The reason is that I am largely deaf, so when I chant it is more

of a kinisthetic experience than a sonic one. I'm VERY aware of the play of lip

and toungue, the vibrations inside my head, that sort of stuff. I check out my

actual pronunciations with my teachers when I go to class.

Sat Nam, Leo
