Guest guest
Sat Nam everyone! Ok, I have a really weird question for you. The past month or two my right ear has begun to get clogged, like I have water in it. The strange thing is I'm not swimming or doing anything that would get water in it, except for showers. I've never had problems with water in my ears before, ever. I was in the water a lot over the summer with my kids and didn't have a problem then either. I can't understand what is going on. It's only my right ear. And today it was clogged BEFORE I got a shower. I've been using the stuff called Swimmer's Ear. And it drains it pretty well. But the strange thing is, it's usually clogged up again before I get my next shower. Its not a consistent timing thing. Sometimes it will begin to get clogged up within a few hours of using the Swimmer's Ear, sometimes overnight, it varies. I can't figure out what's going on. I know this isn't yoga related, but has anyone else had problems like this? I'm wondering if it's food related. I've been eating more beans/lentils than normal, but I wouldn't think that that would affect fluid in the ear. I'm at a loss. And its pretty annoying when it keeps clogging/unclogging throughout the day. Thanks! Christa
Guest guest
Christa, I have had the same problem with my left ear only. With me it is the sinus condition I think. The ears are connected to the sinuses and if you have a problem with congestion, it's possible that it could affect an ear. With me it would last two or three days, I would have to put the music on louder... It bothered me enough that I had my ear checked more than once, the doctor told me to hold my nose while blowing out, if I heard popping noises, he said that was a good sign that it would unblock... That is all the advice he gave me! It hasn't bothered me for a while but I think that ear is more sensitive than the other one. I also cover my head outdoors, keep my ears covered since we have a lot of wind here where I'm living. Deanna on West Island ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *We must feel needed. Guest guest
Sat Nam! I should probably say I'm a first time poster to this list, but FINALLY something I know a little about ;-) I am not a doctor (IANAD) but my son had something happen a few years ago that was similar to this. Are you sure your eardrum is in good shape? My son had perforated his, although it was not known. He stared to complain of water in his ear. It turned out his ear drum had been growing into his inner ear and had invaded a sinus which was draining out that convenient opening. We didn't discover it until it abcessed, which was actually a lucky thing because now with surgery (and God's grace) his eardrum has been replaced and he's regained several decibels of hearing in that ear. Not saying this is your problem, but if I were you I'd consider having that ear checked by a specialist. We started out asking our GP about it and that delayed the actual diagnosis by a couple of years and caused my poor son to have to go through the pain of abcess to finally figure it out. Guest guest
Sat nam Danese, Your post struck a chord with me because that's exactly how I lost my hearing. In my case it went so far as to dissolve the small bones in the inner ear. LEO
Guest guest
Thanks for the feedback everyone. The strange thing is that my sinuses aren't congested at all during these periods. In fact, since I began doing some of the breathing techniques that I re-posted awhile ago from Pieter, my head has never been clearer. And that's what's really confusing me. I also don't have any pain or pressure associated with it. I know that the ear can be affected by head colds (which I haven't had in almost 5-6 months) and water in the ear. I'm assuming, perhaps incorrectly, that since I haven't had any problems with sinuses that this isn't what's happening with me. But that could be an incorrect assumption. It hasn't been too bad the past few days, but I'll see what happens. If it keeps up, I guess I'll have a doctor take a look at it just to make sure there isn't something wrong. And Danese, thanks for posting! Please feel free to join in whenever you want! Thanks again everyone! Christa
