Guest guest
Does anyone know what the hand posture of the statue of the Big Buddha in Japan is called? What about its significance with meditation? John P.S. I am new to the group and think this is a great community.
Guest guest
Are you asking about the Amida Buddha (Daibutsu) in Kamakura? (as shown on http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/amida.html)? If yes, the mudra appears to be two-handed Dhyana mudra Check out http://www.onmarkproductions.com/html/amida.html and http://www.buddhanet.net/mudras.htm for more info on the Mudras of Buddha Sat Nam, Danese On Saturday, November 23, 2002, at 07:55 PM, John Casey wrote: > Does anyone know what the hand posture of the statue of the Big Buddha > in Japan is called? Guest guest
John, This is a great question, but there are many Big Buddhas in Japan! Traditionally, the different aspects of the Buddha will have different hand mudras. Here are some web pages with mudras where you can identify the one you are talking about -- if it's not here, send me a picture off list and I'll let you know which one it is. ranjitk http://www.buddhanet.net/mudras.htm (drawings of hands) http://www.exoticindiaart.com/article/mudras (with statue images) Ong So Hung, Ranjit >"John Casey" <XtrmeMtnBiker >Kundaliniyoga ><Kundaliniyoga> > hand posture? >Sat, 23 Nov 2002 19:55:42 -0800 > > >Does anyone know what the hand posture of the statue of the Big Buddha in >Japan is called?
