Guest guest
Satnam Ranjit kaur, Great job! Fun isn't it:) Made me remember my first kundalini yoga class You are so right... it is our continuing education in kundalini yoga. Since you asked about our teaching and how it is going I wanted to share so insights in my own practice. I had had a really hard time last year and was commanded to serve Bibiji full time for as long as it took to get the karma of my life cleared up. I did not teach those 10 mths for the first time in 11 years of professional teaching. It was quite a change in the beginning and it made me reassess myself as a teacher and a student at the same time. My practice went down and although I knew I could not be teaching at the time missed it so much. When I finally came back home I came to the conclusion that my mission to teach was over. On to other spiritual things. I did start two classes and really felt this is not for me anymore. I wrote Yogi Bhajan and asked him what to do and he wrote back and said "teach". I have been doing it ever since and it changes everyday but it always brings back the saying that the highest position is the one of a teacher. I have changed my teaching style and my misison in teaching is different but the joy of teaching kundalini yoga is still there. I have seen many of my students go on to teach and become better teachers than myself and you will one day experience this and feel so blessed that they learnt something from you. Keep up and spread the light and you will become the light. Humbly s.i.r khalsa
Guest guest
Sat Nam! I taught my first "professional" Kundalini Yoga class last night and it went SO WELL! I had three students, which is three times as many as I thought would show up since it is a brand new class and hasn't even been printed up on the studio's schedule yet... I taught the Basic Spinal Energizer Set as a warm-up and then the New Lungs & Circulation Set -- LOVE beating on the ground and chanting HAR! -- then ended with Smiling Buddha meditation. One student in the class had never done KY before, and she had a tough time with some of the exercises in the 2nd set, but she really got into keeping up despite the difficulty. She told me after class that she was amazed at how beneficial the practice was! Wow, isn't that cool... Teaching is our continuing education -- I learned so much from just one class: what needs work and what worked without me how to respond to the students' energy, when to talk more, when to talk less, how to keep the flow going, how to pace the class, the list just goes on! I'd love to hear how everyone's classes are going, too. Kundalini Matee Shakti, Namo Ranjit Kaur _______________ Tired of spam? Guest guest
Sat Nam Ranjit, thanks for writing about your first class as teacher -- and congratulations! Since beginning to attend class regularly, I've enjoyed experiencing different teaching styles and focuses. I've been to some great classes led by recent teacher certification graduates. I've just begun teacher training myself, and am most interested in observing how different teachers express concepts, demonstrate pranayam and asanas, and answer questions -- especially questions from beginners. I loved reading about your experience. Please keep us posted as you continue to teach. I, too, would like to hear about how others' classes are going. Guest guest
Sat Nam Ranjit Kaur, Thank you for sharing. Recently I have been giving my students more time between exercises to focus and be aware of the sensations in their body and the changes that come with each exercise. They are absolutely loving it so much that it took me by surprise. It is really great. Sincerely yours Hari Sant Singh Give up your sense of mine and yours and become the dust of the feet of all. Guest guest
Sat Nam All! I'm not a teacher, but I would love to give my perspective as a student. To reiterate what Pieter and Gordon have said, since incorporating the breathing that Pieter described, and extending my times between postures to 2-3 minutes like Dharam recommended. I can tell a HUGE difference in the effect and benefits from ky. I highly recommend trying these with your students and as well and see if they react similarly. Good Luck (here I thought you'd been teaching for a few years now!) Christa
