Guest guest
Sat Nam everyone, Japji has been on my mind for the last 6 months. In the spring my teacher told us that in Japji there will be one line that will pertain to each individual. That they should just let it come to them without thinking about it. When I was at Summer solstice this year I came across Mata Mandir's Japji CD (Both Gurmuhki and english version) I remember picking it up and telling my friend I need to buy this and read Japji, but in the end I had some resistance come up and I didn't. Long story short, six months later, I now have this Cd in my possesion and have been listening to it over the last week. I don't know what I was waiting for! I Love every word of it. I remember listening to people reciting it before Sadhanna at Sum. Solstice, but at that time it held no meaning for me. Even when I read along with the translation in english. This time was very different (mind you I've only listened to the english version so far). I was driving in my car and Mata Mandir began to sing. I felt the same way once before. It was at my first White Tantric event. The moment we began chanting/singing during the first meditation, one hundred people chanting together, I'd never experienced anything like it before. It was a very beautiful moment in my life. As Mata mandir sang the truth of it rang in my heart. Sometimes when my teacher speaks, the truth of what he is saying hits me like a ton of bricks in the heart and I feel myself being changed for the better. That is how this was for me. The more I listen the more I want to immerse myself in it and live it. I guess in a nut shell that is what sacred writings do for a person. I don't know which line pertains to me yet. Although many deeply touch me. There is one line that strikes a chord with me and I'm not even sure exactly what it means. I have a sense of it but can't put it into words at this time (Maybe someone out there can expand on this line for me). English translation: One gesture, one word and ten thousand rivers flow! How can I speak or reflect on this power? I cannot be a sacrifice even one time. (it's this line I'm wondering about) I want to do only what pleases thee. Formless... Peaceful...Divine... I came acroos Dharam's post on what the different stanza's will do for you and am using that currently as well to understand. So thank you Dharam for that post! Guest guest
satnam, I love japji! kudrat kavan kaha vichar Varia na java ek var What power can describe God or His schemes? I can't even once be a sacrifice to you, my God! We are to bow to our souls destiny and give up our ego for we are in awe of that which created us. Japji is a love poem to God in a language that will take you to God. In it lies the mystery and the mastery of the soul and it's fulfilment. The soul longs for it . I can't live without it. Thanks for reminding me of it's beauty. s.i.r. khalsa
Guest guest
LOVE JAPJI! Thanks for mentioning the bit about the one line applying to you... never heard this before. I like saying these: keetaa andar keet kar dosee dos Dharay. (Among worms, you would be considered a lowly worm, and even contemptible sinners would hold you in contempt.) naanak nirgun gun karay gunvanti-aa gun day. (O Nanak, God blesses the unworthy with virtue, and bestows virtue on the virtuous.) and mannai surat hovai man buDh. (The faithful have intuitive awareness and intelligence.) mannai sagal bhavan kee suDh. (The faithful know about all worlds and realms.) I do hope the first one about worms isn't "my" line... ha ha ha! sat nam ranjit
Guest guest
Sat Nam Ranjit! Ya, I didn't know where you were going with that "worm" line! Ha Ha! But funny enough the next line has been running through my head all week "O Nanak! God gives goodness to those who have it and those who don't" I must be feeling like the worm among worms this week and that line reminds me God's grace is a given without conditions. I also love this line this week: 24th Pauri God is high, The Nam is high, You must get that high to see, God knows how high he is, O Nanak! One glance will set you free!
