Rootlock and breath

Sat nam all,

I have been gone for a while. I started slacking off on my practice but now

im getting in the groove a little again. Considering i have never had any

type of teacher or guide on kundalini it is very difficult for me to

proplerly do and use my yoga just from reading. Lately i have been doing the

set for maintaining a flexible spine and i have some questions on

technique.(1) after each exercise, do i take a deep breath and hold it in

the "up" position of the exercise and then come down and perform rootlock?

or do i do rootlock in whatever position the exercise is? (2) Is rootlock

always done in the same position as it is shown on the web-site? if not,

when is it used otherwise? (3) How long do i hold the breath for rootlock?

Also, I am taking amphetamine as a perscription of my ADHD problem. I have

noticed that it has helped me concentrate on my breath during my practice a

lot. Is it ok to do yoga while on it? are there any dangerous effects i

should be aware of?

Peace, love and laughter

-David

Sat Nam David,

I noticed nobody has responded to your question yet, so I'll comment

on what I can.

I don't know the exact set that you are speaking of so, if there are

no directions on how to end the posture...

-if it's a held posture, hold it,inhale and pull root lock.

(hold root lock for as long as you are comfortable,~5-10secs?) relax

the lock, exhale and relax the posture and be calm and aware

allowing all changes to integrate into your system.

-if it's a moving posture, like spinal flexes or twists, inhale the

spine into a straight line, pull rootlock, hold then relax the lock

and exhale and be calm.

-postures like Cobra, Bow, Inverted Bow pose you would inhale and

hold rootlock in what I believe you consider the "up" position.

ex)in cobra extending the arms, contracting the muscles on either

side of the spine, proud chest forward and neck extended, face

facing the ceiling (would be considered the "up" position).

It's definitely hard if you don't have really good photos to follow

along with if you've never been to a KY class before. As long as

you tune in with Ong namo Guru Dev Namo and your intention is to

practice what is being taught as closely as you can, I believe any

errors you may make will be covered by the Golden Chain of teachers).

Rootlock is used at the end of exercises primarily and of course Sat

Kriya. It is also used during some meditations, but only where it

is specified it isn't something you would just add in like you might

just add rootlock onto the end of every exercise you do.

As for your prescription? I don't know? maybe someone will comment

on that for you now?

Good luck and keep up, many people start and stop their practice in

the beginning, but it's definitely worth coming back to.

All Peace,

Sat Sangeet
