Guest guest
Sat Nam, Everyone No, it's not fun to gag and I wasn't intentionally trying to do it, but it happens very naturally with the Jal Neti program talked about in Oct. After I do the nasal cleanse with salt water, I brush my teeth with salt. Then, it seemed my tongue had so much mucus that I started scrapping it gently with a spoon. As one reaches to the back of the tongue, the gag reflex happens. At the end, I gargle a little salt water to soothe my throat...sip a bit of water and am ready to hop into the shower. The mental clarity certainly is a benefit. Best, Diane
Guest guest
Sat Nam Dharam! You know, the thought of gagging myself on purpose, makes me want to gag! Can you give me a "pep talk" on why I'd want to do this?? Maybe hit me with some facts about how my life would be different if I did? I don't believe I've ever gagged before, other than in the process of throwing up! And that's my most un-favorite thing to do! It took me 4 years to get into a cold shower! I don't know what it'll take to get me to gag?! Sat Sangeet
Guest guest
Sat Nam Sat Sangeet, Gagging is a very potent way of clearing your sinus, throat and upper respiratory (Ear, eyes, nose and throat are all connected). Gagging sends a cleansing reflex through your system. I don't injest anything in the morning until I've gagged and cleared my system. While we sleep, our body is working to eliminate toxins, waste and bacteria from our body. Much of this gathers at the "monkey glands", which I am pretty sure is the same as the tonsils, which doctors often remove because germs are gathering there and just hanging out. They get swollen and then make it hard to breathe at night. I still have mine. Hey, you know people with morning breath? Yeah, that's why. People use mouthwash and fancy tasting toothpaste as a band aid. None of this is cleaning the system. It's like lipstick on a pig. All over America people are washing all this foulness, this sickness back into the body with coffee and donuts.....and you got the picture? Obey your body, it has it's own wisdom. It took the night to get this stuff up to the mouth - now all we have to do is kick it out...no big deal. Didn't you hear folks doing this at Winter Solstice? Come to summer, it's more communal. Showering and cleaning areas are more consolidated. Admittedly, this is not as exotic as Jal Neti but it gets the job done real good. For more on the emotional benefits refer to the 20 or so emails of late Oct./early Nov. that have Elephant in the subject line. These procedures do lot to promote mental clarity and evenness. It helps balance Vatta and Kapha (depending on the depth of the reflex). I can't make it sound pretty but hopefully the alternative is much more distasteful. Are we having Fun yet? Dharam P.S. Guest guest
Sat Nam everyone, Can we not get rid of toxins through other methods, like fasting, drinking detox tea and other herbs that rid the body of toxins? Is gagging the only way? I do herbal mouth, nasal and eye rinses am I gonna have to do this too if I want to be toxin free? By the way, Dharan, I had a good laugh this morning over "It's like lipstick on a pig." And, Satsangeet, I got pretty tickled about your email over gagging too.
