Sat Nam!

Wow, this subject comes up alot. So I'm reposting an earlier email I wrote

about my personal experience in reply to those who are balking at attempting

to jump into a cold shower -- cold!

My journey into the world of cold showers has been experimental and very,

very gradual. I started out early this year by just introducing a cold rinse

after a regular hot shower. This is quite refreshing actually. Gradually

over time I reduced the temperature of the hot shower -- to a warm shower --

to a lukewarm shower, and increased the time spent under the cold rinse.

(Hot showers make the skin dull and sag more, lukewarm is prefered.)

I did this for over 6 months before finally getting up the gumption to dive

into a cold shower first thing! I started by getting in and turning on the

hot water faucet so that I got a quick cold shot first and then the water

would warm up for washing, then finish with the cold rinse. I still do this

sometimes when I am not up for pure cold. ;) But eventually I began getting

used to jumping into the cold early in the morning, and it started becoming:

FUN! It really wakes you up and is quite invigorating. You don't have to do

it for very long, either.

Now I am taking a cold shower before sadhana, then taking a warm shower

afterwards to wash my hair, but still doing a long cold rinse before I get

out. That's what works for me.

Yes, I took the wimpy way into all this! I guess I just want to share what I

did to illustrate to you that you can experiment with it any way you want,

any way you can do it, to get to your goal of doing this practice.

And don’t forget our ladies holiday, take only warm showers during your

monthly period.

One more thing, I would definitely use the oil before a cold shower, it is

wonderful to massage your self down, helps bring heat to the surface and

protects the skin. The water helps the oils absorb into the skin better

apparently.

Sat Nam Ranjit,

Thanks for the re-post. I like the tip about the oil. I will make sure to

try that. And, I did stay away from the cold showers while on my holiday.

Being southern (southern United States for all of our friends overseas) I

was always taught this from the other women in my family that the two do not

mix!
