Guest guest
First off, Way to go Toyb! But, yeah, you want to do it before ingesting anything. > I know these things seem funny at first but after a while you don't even > think about it anymore.. that is.. unless you're staying at a 'non-yogi' > house and want to gag in the morning, and then have to try and do it > *quietly* (not so easy) so as not to worry anybody! Back when I first started this my mother used to give me BIG GRIEF when I came home and was gagging in the morning in her house. Now, lately I've been walking into some new territory. Whenever I fly (on the airlines) I almost always have to deal with my ears getting clogged . Now I realize this is all moving rather quickly, for some of us, but by deductive reasoning I have concluded that if my ears (inner) are attached to my nose and throat and gagging is so good for my nose and throat, then maybe I can clear my ears with this method. So....during any layovers and immediately after any flights I go into the public rest room, wait for everyone to leave, and as unobtrusively as I can, I gag. And you know what... it works wonders. Just something to keep in mind the next time you fly. This is also useful for those who do Scuba and are having a hard time equalizing the pressure in the inner ear due to mucus. Off course, it makes sense to cut back on mucus producing foods if you are planning to dive (or fly). It would be tragic to fly all the way to the Turks and Caicos Islands to dive and not be able to do so because of mucus or worse, ignoring the pain in your ears, go ahead and dive anyway and lose an eardrum. Guest guest
I have a REALLY basic question in all of this. I have noticed that my sinuses/nasal passages have been more open that I ever remember them being. But I also have always had a problem with equalizing my ears underwater. And I honestly didn't make an connection until your post, Dharam. My question, is it possible to have mucus affecting your ears that you don't feel in your nose? Also, for me, I can't even swim to the bottom of a 6 ft deep swimming pool and not feel pressure in my ears, sometimes uncomfortable pressure. But I can also feel pressure on my lungs just sitting in water. I notice a significant difference with the 'effort' required to breathe there versus out of the water. We tried snorkeling on our honeymoon (many, many years ago), and I had to resign myself to floating along the top of the ocean while I watched my husband explore the bottom. Two reasons: 1) I couldn't stand the pressure in my ears and 2) the fins, goggles and snorkle were more boyant than my body was dense and I couldn't keep myself under water! (Hubby really thought that part was funny). Anyways, all of this to say that while I've always had issues with equalizing my ears underwater, I've never had allergies or excessive head colds. So are the two still possibly related do you think? Christa
