Guest guest
Greetings all! All kidding aside... Warning: I'm about to be graphic, if your new to KY you may not want to read on!! I DID IT! TWICE! I practiced last night, took a dry run for the morning event... I wasn't impressed and decided to try again in the morning. I don't know if what I experienced was a "normal" response? It didn't leave me feeling well, so can I describe it and someone tell me if this is what happens normally? I gently, brushed the back of my tongue. The moment my brush went past a certian point, I had what I would describe as a "violent" contraction of the abdominals about 3 inches below the navel, which became an intense contraction right up to the rib cage and culminated in my throat with the esophagus clamping shut. My body made the well known action of throwing up, but nothing happened...No gagging sound.. no mucus...nothing except air expelling when the contraction finally released and I felt very "off" afterwards around the navel...like how you feel before you might faint. And I continued to burp like crazy through my whole sadhana. Is this me resisting the flow in my body? Because what I saw at solstice interms of gagging, didn't seem to involve the entire body! I would appreciate a bit of feed back on this. Sat Sangeet
Guest guest
The body doesn't lie. Remember that conscious objection you had to this reflex? You said "I won't even swim in the ocean because the taste of the salt water makes me want to throw up!" That's a lot of momentum to get over.....years of momentum. Somewhere in there is some fertile ground for growth. Rage on! young woman.... That "off" feeling was some integration happening between mind and body. Think of all the thought forms we entertain that have nothing to do with our true self and humanity. Think of all the Bulls*#t (or Bush, for short) our leaders feed us! The stripping of 80% of the world´s natural resources for our unsatisfying instant gratification! the fear and development of widespread nuclear/chemical warfare; the growing amount of sickness and laziness due to feelings of helplessness and our modern addictions; the exploitation and impoverishment of people in difficulty. And we sit on the sidelines and basically have to watch (sorry Gordon). This action we do in our bathrooms is cathartic energetically and emotionally and helps let go of this psychic crud. We need to do this if we are to be tools for peace and justice and healing. One subtle point I didn't mention but learnt years ago from an absolutely dedicated Yogi(and rabidly so) was to lean on the sink with the elbow so that most of your torso's weight is resting on it. This takes pressure off of the kidneys and lower back and relaxes the diaphragm. This will make for less "violence". Sorry I did mention this earlier. But body movement is totally cool. Things will smooth off real quick. You ever watch a baby throw up? You don't even notice, it's so peaceful and natural. That's the ideal. The burping is real good! I personally have watched Tai Chi masters burp massively as the began their form. I burp nice when I hit my yoga set properly. Guest guest
Sat Nam, I always was told to do this first thing in the am. Do not eat or drink anything before. The idea is not to vomit, the idea is to clear the upper passages. I personally do not do the routine as intensely as Dharam Singh. But even a small reflex clears the mucous from my throat. Sometimes it will clear a few minutes later, if it doesn't clear at that moment. My tongue likes to be brushed until it is clear.
