Guest guest
Ranjit et al, According to Hari Kaur's book, A Woman's Book of Yoga (excellent book, by the way) the Kirtan Kriya (Sa Ta Na Ma Meditation) that has been discussed is as follows: Sitting in either easy pose or in a chair with your feet flat on the ground with yours eyes focused on the brow point while using your fingers as previously discussed... 5 Minutes out loud 5 Minutes in a loud whisper 10 Minutes silently 5 Minutes in a loud whisper 5 Minutes out loud After this last repetition segment, inhale and exhale deeply as you stretch your arms upward as far as possible, spreading your fingers wide, for one minute. Relax. When you chant out loud, you relate to the realm of the earth and humanity. When you whisper, you relate to the realm of lovers, longing to belong and relate. When you chant silently, you relate to the realm of the divine and infinity, beyond time and space. By chanting in all three voices, you create a harmonious balance between body, mind an soul. This version of Kirtan Kriya is particularly effective in helping a woman to release deeply held impressions of past, negative sexual encounters, but it is also beneficial to eliminate negative thought patterns. In my own first two weeks of doing this as a 40 day meditation, I had some very powerful results and issues that were brought to the surface! Then, of course, I missed a day and had to start over. The book also discusses another version of the Kriya, lying on your belly with your chin of the floor, arms by your sides and palms facing up, so that you can do the hand movements. In this version, you only chant aloud, and can do it for 3 - 31 minutes. Start slowly and rest your head to one side if your neck becomes stiff. Performing the Kriya in this position balances your moon centers, as well as helping to break negative thought patterns and can assist you in going through difficult transitions and the emotional turmoil that accompanies them. Although it seems that a number for us have heard different versions of Kirtan Kriya, my thinking is that as long as it is coming from a KRI approved source, it has the stamp of approval from Yogi Bhajan. In the end, that what counts! Sat Nam, Alyssa Semple / Mukhya Kaur
Guest guest
Sat Nam, I have a few comments on meditation and how to end it. This following seems to skip an important step. > According to Hari Kaur's book, A Woman's Book of Yoga the Kirtan Kriya (Sa Ta Na Ma Meditation) discussed> is as follows: > > Sitting in either easy pose or in a chair with your feet flat on the ground> with yours eyes focused on the brow point while using your fingers as> previously discussed... > > 5 Minutes out loud > 5 Minutes in a loud whisper > 10 Minutes silently > 5 Minutes in a loud whisper > 5 Minutes out loud > > After this last repetition segment, inhale and exhale deeply as you stretch > your arms upward as far as possible, spreading your fingers wide, for one > minute. Relax. I was taught to do the 30 mintues and then to sit silently and listen to the mantra come back to me. We seem to be missing the fact that all these meditations are really exercises that prepare us for real meditation on the sound current of the universe. If we get up and go after doing the exercise, we miss the effect and it is not integrated into our psyche and body. It is like quick sex. Do it and get up and go. And then cheat yourself out of the deep pleasure of the relaxation. Yogi Bhajan loves to tell us that everythilng in the universe is a sexual act. It is all intercourse. In mantra meditation we develop a relationship with the sound, the universe and ourselves. After the action, we sit there and enjoy the effect. We listen. LISTEN BE We have to integrate meditation the same as we have to do deep relaxation after yoga exercises. Often I lie down on my back after meditation to integrate it. Then and only then, when we are finished enjoying the result to do we the inhale deeply as you stretch > your arms upward as far as possible, spreading your fingers wide. Stretch the spine and then shake the hands and arms. Keep stretching and shaking while you inhale and exhale several times. Then relax again and you are ready for your next activity. Make your meditation like good sex. Now I bet no one will forget this advise again. :+) Sat Nam, Gururattan Kaur
Guest guest
Sat Nam, I have a few more comments on meditation and how to end it. What I explained in my last email was specifically for SA TA NA MA. This meditation is completed by one or more minutes of listening. Then you do the > inhale deeply as you stretch > your arms upward as far as possible,> spreading your fingers wide. Stretch the spine and then shake the hands and> arms. Keep stretching and shaking while you inhale and exhale several > times. For other meditations, the above stretching is done after you complete the alotted time. Then you sit quietly and let the integration of the energy happen. Sat nam, Gururattan Kaur
