Guest guest
Sat Nam, According to Ayurveda sighing is a body's way of releasing vata. Vata usually associated with depression. It is a good thing that the person sighing is in yoga class, hopefully with a teacher aware Ayurvedically of ways to help release vata that is in excess. Twists done correctly pulling out of the sacrum and both lungs open and expanded releases vata very quickly. Of course a very structured daily routine such as KY or Ayurvedic living does so also. Hope this helps in some way. Namaste, Rebecca
Guest guest
Satnam ji's Just wanted to put my two cents in about sighing.I am assuming it is the same physical and emotional reaction that we all do . Last year while working at the Master's Kitchen( yogi bhajan) I learnt a lot about sighing from his cook who was an absolute delight and a most honorable character. I have habits of a youngest child being I whine and I sigh a lot....go figure. Well anyway this man has studied for 30 years with the master and one day while helping him prep veggies I sighed rather heavily..The yogi moved away from me and said rather sternly " do not do that near me again." I was very perturbed. No one had ever questioned my little outbursts. I did it again later that day and he said you are hurting yourself and me when you do that. The master told me years ago that we should breathe properly at all times and that when you sigh like that you are cutting your arcline in half and it weakens you and it also affects the person's energy next to you.I don't even know what it does to your brain and organs. When ever you do this I will move away from you. Well excuse me mister wiseguy..and control freak... I am supposed to redo my habits of improper breathing for you!! I spent the following two weeks with this man and I really had to acess my sighing and the emotion to what I was feeling and how I was addressing my emotions and negativity. It was a very profound experience to watch and go deeper into my reactions. All I can say is that I have found that people from certain exercise modality think it is okay to come to class and release in this way to the utter amazement of others. I am not talking about a spontaneous reaction but a technique to release in public...I had my own lessons that summer and I know that there is a deeper understanding in terms of the breath and release. I still sigh by the way but I am alert to the fact that it is affecting my arcline because I experimented with it and also it backlash at me in one of my classes. I was teaching a 4 hr intensive with my husband and a woman in the back decided to just sigh through out the first hour of the class. Again she was taught to release in this way . I was going nuts . It just was so distracting and everyone was uneasy but didn't really know why.. My family and I have been investigating the whole thing being the yogis that we are and the detectives that we are. My 14 yr old admitted recently"I think there is some truth to that cutting my energy ji" after I sigh near her.Ha ha ha I say to each his own I am at least concious that it does affect me.Well I hope we were talking about the same thing but please don't be offended like I first was when he mentioned it to me. Just experiment and find your own conclusions Thanks S.I.R. khalsa

Guest guest
Satnam Ranjit, That was very helpful also to me for it explained why I was signing! Now I can explain on a physical level which makes it easier for people to understand. I am one of those all Vata people so I will be aware of the signs and the sighing and also aware of when my Vata is of much easier! Thanks s.i.r.khalsa
