Guest guest
Sat Nam, In Kundalini Yoga, Kechari mudra is considered a bandha, the tongue lock. I learned it as part of Maha Mudra, in which you apply mul bandh (root lock), uddiyana bandh (torso lock), jaladhara bandh (chin lock), kechari mudra (tongue lock) and shambhavi or broomadhya mudra (gaze locked at 3rd eye, there are other terms for this also) -- all simultaneously in a posture. Of course it can also be practiced separately... Pressing the tongue upwards on the center of the roof of the mouth is just the beginning of practicing kechari mudra. This is what most of us can do (should do?) It is called nabho mudra. Ultimately for kechari, you want the tongue to reach back behind the shelf of the palate. Some yogis slice the bottom skin of the tongue slowly over years and years to free the tongue to reach back here -- ala Gene Simmons! Practice of this mudra is said to stimulate the pituitary gland, which can open the 3rd eye. Guest guest
This just in: One of my fellow teachers just told me about a meditation for Beauty where you hold kechari mudra and "suck" the breath through the mouth, around/over the tongue, pulling the tongue back as far as possible as if to swallow it. (Some yogis can actually swallow the tongue.) And do for 3, 11, 31, 62... minutes ~rjk _______________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
