Guest guest
You ask a good question and the model on which your question is based on is of the Master/Chela relationship. Where you are initiated by a teacher. Things are different with the teachings the way we are taught by Yogi Bhajan. In this system, you initiate yourself. Traditionally, initiates of Yoga are educated in the healing system of India, Ayurveda. [Traditionally] speaking, a spiritual seeker who hoped to raise Kundalini would FIRST learn the discipline of Ayurveda. In this way they could keep their body healthy and balanced. SECONDLY, they studied Yoga, in order to achieve mastery over their mental processes - another kind of balance. LAST of all they would approach the discipline of Kundalini Yoga, knowing that, in so far as it was possible, they were balanced and prepared both physically and mentally for the awesome power of Kundalini. In the old model, for Kundalini to rise without very real danger it was necessary to be as healthy and balanced physically and mentally as possible. This still has validity. The more you understand about Ayurveda, the more you can know what you need to do and more respect you'll have for the entire process. But it not so dramatic as whether you'll go nuts or not. I have heard descriptions of a number of people where they were seeing lights, hearing sounds and whatnot. They were thinking that their Kundalini was rising and were getting distracted. In fact, they are undoubtedly having severe symptoms of doshic or constitutional imbalance, usually Vata - Pitta. Sincerely linking through the Golden Chain, the Adi Mantra (Ong Namo, Guru Dev Namo) will prevent these disturbances in people. Chant the Adi Mantra 3 - 5 times or until your feel relaxed and "linked". The mantra confronts us and initiates us. You will be covered. Listen to yourself when you practice, deeply relax when you are done. Meditate/Chant/do Kirtan afterward to cleanse the tension from the mental body and integrate the effects of the experience. Perfect the breath and then give it back to "GOD". Teach yoga. Do Seva. Say something you've never said before to someone in your life. Take a little steps. You have the opening...you created it, now just step into.
