Guest guest
Sat Nam..Everyone.. Something has been brewing/stewing in me (other than the chicken pox's!) for the last week around, the idea of KY being KY, and that's that. I was taught that KY is the base of all yoga's (Mother of all Yoga's). Each facet of Yoga we see practiced in our world..has a root in Kundalini Yoga. So to say there isn't an intermingling or weaving between all of them going on, is not noticing the whole picture. All Yoga's work to raise the Kundalini energy...none so directly as KY as taught by Yogi Bhajan. When we practice another yoga we aren't working on "something else". We've just taken a different road and all these roads eventually have the same destination. When I chant "Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo" it rings in every part of my being..connecting me to the Golden chain of teachers...I am connected to the Divine flow. For me this is a mantra to use with any yoga I practice or any endeavor I undertake when I need to act from my highest good. When I practice KY...I follow kriya's as they are given..I do not add or take away anything....but with that said...I choose a number of warm up exercises before every class that aren't a specific kriya, that will support the work we are about to do....what gives me the "right" to do this? "Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo" I make my choices based on my connection with the Golden Chain. All yoga's will have tendrils in others..they are inseparable..yoga is union...When practicing KY recognize, this isn't toilet water we are dealing with...this is perfume...practice it with resposibilty and integrity...keep the Kriyas intact. Follow the guidelines. But if you look with a broad enough perspective at other yogas, you will see where one weaves through the other...and where there might be a small opening to deepen that practice by bringing something you've learned in KY to the table. Something appropriate based on your experience and your state of connection to the Divine flow. If you do not hold a large enough perspective to be able to recognize this and... if you know that you're really not sure or aware of feeling a connection with the Divine flow after tuning in...then yes...follow everything by the book. Be willing to de- construct your ego structure and align it with the soul, so that you can be a clear conduit for the Divine will. As a teacher...when I'm in a situation, class room or otherwise, if I become aware of an opening to share a teaching that will benefit the class or the individual... it is my resposibility to share it...some one taught me...integrity tells me, now I need to pass this on. And unfortunately it's not always in the form of a KY class setting. And as I've said in the past..in any moment of doubt..rely on Guru Ram Das...and if you don't know what that entails..keep practicing until you do. I don't stop being a teacher when I walk out of a classroom. When I say practice with integrity...I mean it. This is neither an invitation for people to mix yoga's...This is a recognition that the boundaries and lines we draw are usually put in place for everyone's safety....and when "survival and safety" are covered, sometimes there is room for a broader application. For instance....I've been in one of Gurmuhk's pre-natal classes where we did a mixture of KY and Hatha postures? And I don't believe any body would accuse Gurmukh of being a "rogue" KY teacher! I also coach people in SNR in my classes...I've never used the words or called it that...but when I ask them to notice all parts, equally and completely...allowing and witnessing..without feuling sensations with more thought...I am teaching people to relate to their sensitive space which is a step in SNR healing. This isn't taught in any kriya...but I am guided to do it...and people transform with this practice...I know in my heart it is an appropriate action...it lessens suffering. Anyways..A few thoughts...
