Guest guest
Sat Nam Sean! Man! Wish I'd gotten to Kundalini Yoga at 15. And your Dad studies as well? Cool. Have you looked around to see if there are any KY teachers in your area that you could work with? I've been at this for less than a year and I only have 2 books right now, TRANSITIONS TO A HEART-CENTERED WORLD and RELAX AND RENEW, both by our very own Gururattan Khalsa. You can find them at yogatech.com. I've heard others say, and I agree, if you can only get one book, get TRANSITIONS. There is so much in there it'll make you cross-eyed for awhile. (Sometimes having too many choices is confusing). I've been kind of bouncing around myself, other people are very disciplined in their practices and all very patient with us beginners. They say to get the full effect of any meditation then you need to practice it for 40 days. Don't change up anything in the sets you choose to do. It's a rule. Personally I'm a huge fan of the Smiling Buddha meditation and the meditation for Gurprasad
Guest guest
Sat Nam Sean! ...and welcome to the list! You must have some pretty good karma if you were introduced to kundalini yoga at the age of 15! You can find all the kriyas and meditations that you need in www.yogatech.com there are some new dvd's for beginners too. Personally I started by doing the "Basic Spinal Flexes"series for 40 days ...it is in Sadhana Guidelines. It is quite a simple kriya but also strong...very good intro to kundalini yoga. Gururattan's "Transitions to a Heartcentered World" is a very nice manual..you'll find plenty of nice stuff in there...also Guru Dharam's book "Kundalini The Essence of Yoga" is very enlightening.."Autobiography of a Yogi" by Paramahansa Yogananda and "Initiation" by Elizabeth Haich are my spiritual bibles.. good luck with seeking...hope you'll gain some amazing experiences. Guest guest
Sat Nam and Welcome Sean. Fredericksburg is about midway between Richmond and I495. I'm fairly certain there is at least one ky teacher near Reston, but I'm not positive if there are any south of there. I'm also not sure which way (DC or Richmond) is closer to you. But the size of the city doesn't necessarily indicate if a ky teacher is there. You can go to the 3ho website (www.3ho.org) and search for ky teachers in your surrounding area. The closest class I have to me is an hours drive away. So I've been practicing just out of my home. And while a class has a lot of benefits (group energy) if you don't have the option of attending one, you can still gain a lot of benefits from praciticing on your own at home. Its made a world of difference for me. ANd maybe once in awhile you can 'splurge' and make a trip to the nearest class. Good Luck Christa
