Tattvas & Aspects - clarification

Sat Nam Krishan Shiva Kaur,

I have limited formal knowledge (but lots of experience)

regarding the tatwas. What I can relate regarding how the

Doshas (and Tatwas to quite an extent) are described is that

Kapha, Pitta and Vata are thought of as "faults". They are the

grosser manifestations of Ojas, Tejas and Prana, respectively.

When we process these "faults" and refine our experience we

have Ojas, Tejas and Prana.

To say much more would be a bit of conjecture and with my

typing skills, a blow to my schedule. More later.

Sat Nam Dharam,

Thank-you for your post. On the course that I'm doing, we were asked

to identify which of the unhelpful aspects or 'faults', we felt we

most had 'problems' with, or could relate to as causing blockage in

our lives, and then to look towards the root Tattva associated with

that aspect, to see where our unbalance might lie. Then choosing a

kriya, and with yoga practice, meditation, ayurvedic and dosha

knowlege, and any other creative inspiration that might come to us,

design a practice to help that (and the others) element/tattva come

into balance.

I identified most with Pride. So from my different source, I am

trying to work out which element/tattva pride would be associated

with. I had thought it was ether, but when I came across the Medical

Meditation chart p169, it had Pride related to the 4th chakra and the

element of Air, rather than the 5th chakra and ether. I know that my

nature, as I am now, has a tendancy more towards air and that I need

to bring more of the water and earth element into my life to create

balance. But would like to know which aspect is most closely connect

to which tattva?

Do you know which of the below charts is correct?

p.s. Is it spelt tatwas or tattvas?

Many thanks,

---Sat Nam,

The traditional and generally reliable view of the tattvas is: earth:

greed, water: lust, fire: anger, air: attachment (sometimes called

infatuation), ether: pride. Ether has several related connotations

because it is the biggest element and everything else is contained

within it. For instance, pride is kind of an attachment to our own

view of things, our own feelings, exclusively. It is related to the

ego as intellect (5th chakra) in that our experience of thoughts is

that they are MY thoughts and therefore more important than YOUR

thoughts. It is related to the 3rd eyepoint in respect that we

develop spiritual pride, ego or glamour, rather than gratitude,

selflessness, or insight.
