Guest guest Posted February 24, 2003 Report Share Posted February 24, 2003 Sat Nam , Everyone; I have been giving the idea of teaching yoga a great deal of thought. I know that there are many teachers on this list who may be able to advise me as to how to proceed with this goal. For example, I understand that one should be certified under requirements specified by the Yoga Alliance. A few questions that I have are these: How long should I have been studying yoga before I should ethically consider teaching? Also, I live on Long Island , New york. Would anyone on the list be able to recommend a specific teacher or school? My main limitation here is that I have a 6 year old son that I homeschool. Well??? as yoga becomes more mainstream we see greater amounts of people partaking in the practice and thus it gets more attention....requiring some safety guidelines for public health, I suppose. In my own opinion, it would never cross my mind to teach yoga if I didn't feel I met the basic competency standards (whether that comes through your own committed practice or some sort of certifcation process)....maybe there are some people out there who would?? I don't know? I think when you go to a class or speak with an instructor..if you were to open your awareness in that moment and listen, it would be apparent to you whether that person was a genuine teacher or not. Truth hits you in the heart center when you hear it. I would hope as we transition into the Aquarian age our need to "police" one another would lessen as we begin to live from the heart and upper centers... acting with integrity in our every moment and every action....coming from a posture of love rather than fear. If you are asking me this because you are wondering if you should teach yoga if you aren't certified?...What I would reply to that is... At the end of the day you have to be able to live with yourself. Understand the consequences of your actions..and then act accordingly. Do no harm and spread LOOOOVE! every chance you get! Sat Nam!
