Guest guest
Sat Nam, Kundalini Yoga is a new experience for me. In the past I had heard of Kundalini energy. The word kept reappearing and coming up in my day to day reading or activity so decided to investigate further. Came upon many Kundalini sites and began reading in earnest. So I started to take the online lessons and have begun to practice daily silent meditation. I want to add a yoga set into this daily practice. Here are my questions....I copied lesson 6 suggested set for maintaining a flexible spine. It says that "one of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy body is a flexible spine." Okay makes sense but I had scoliosis surgery at the age of 12. My parents were not aware of alternative treatment and surgery has left me with spinal fusion starting in my upper thoracic region with the bone graphing ending at the base of the sacrum. When signing up to the KYlist I filled out the questionnaire and wrote about this being a challenge have not heard anything from that list. I am hoping that my intent will make this set effective. Does anyone have any insight to add? My second question is will an aerobic activity hinder success in Yoga practice? In the past I have been very athletic. A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and really let it get the best of me. Put 40lbs on my already overweight body when I slowed down my aerobic activity. It is time to leave this behind and take control of my body, and this beautiful way of life seems to be what I am supposed to be doing. Guest guest
Sat Nam Kim, The spinal sets for flexibilty will definetely help you. The warm up sets help to prepare your body for meditation. They are basically stretching exercises and some of them will work with your sciatic nerve. That's going to make your back stronger. When you move on to different exercises that are more intense, just be aware of any limitations that you have and work with it. Try not to compare yourself to others because we are all at a different point. As far as yoga and aerobic activity are concerned, yoga enchances your lung capapity. I can swim the entire length of a huge pool and not take a breath. My name is Gina and I have also had back surgery. I still go through a lot of trauma from the residuals. However, you have found the right place to come for direction. Ky yoga will definetely help you. Many blessings, Gina
Guest guest
Kim, One of the best and most encouraging things I have ever heard about Kundalini yoga was "Just lean in the right direction" and you will get the benefit. Your wording of "intent" was right on - the intent will get you the desired effect of any set. Your intent will surmount your physical limitations. You can do Kundalini yoga from a wheelchair and receive the benefits. You have to work with what you have! Any aerobic activity -or other physical activity - will not hinder the effectiveness of Kundalini yoga. In fact, the breath work in Kundalini will help you increase your lung capacity, thereby helping you with Aerobic exercise. I have found this to be true for myself. Practicing deep, correct breathing gives me a better workout. Good luck to you! Sat Nam, Mukhya Kaur / Alyssa
