Guest guest
Hi, I am wondering if anyone could tell me the difference bewteen Kundalini energy and prana - at this point, if a student were to ask me this question, I an not sure what I would say. Are they completely two different forms of energy or is one an extention of the other? Simran Kaur

If we keep our palm on the nose thumb touching the neck and breathe - we may see our breath is normally through one nostril - the breath going from right nostril is prana through the Sun Nadi (Pingala) and if the breath going from left nostril it is prana through the Moon Nadi (Ida). These Nadis meet at the starting point of third vital Nadi Sushumna which passes through the spine on this the are the energy centrs (Kundalini Chakras). By practicing Anuloma Viloma (Alternate breathing) one can open the Sushmna Nadi and at that time our breath is from the both the nostrils. At this point we may concentrate at different energy centres as explained by Guru. I'm not known for my shortest or directest postings! I'll have to talk in circles for 20 minutes before I hit my point! Ha ha! I know Iyer responded...but it wasn't clear to me , in that explanantion, what the "make up" of kundalini energy was...can you expand further Iyer..or anyone else? Guest guest
Sat nam Simran, I came across some notes I had made last year on this topic, after I posted yesterday...I believe I may be able to say this in a few sentences! I made the notes from David Frawleys book "Yoga and Ayurveda" Here goes: We have 3 Doshas Vatta, Pitta, Kapha..out of these form, 3 vital essences (I believe this is what they were called, at any rate).... Prana (cosmic breath)..Tejas (yang) (primal fire)... Ojas (yin) (essence of water) The Kundalini energy developes from all three... but...mostly tejas. I'm working off notes..so someone correct me if I'm wrong... Tejas rises up the central channel...ojas descends (the amrit feeding the kundalini as it rises...the two unite to form the highest form of prana. So from this I would deduce that prana has different variations and permutations (is that a word?) and it's the union of these more refined aspects of prana that create, what we commonly call, "kundalini rising". I think it might be safe to say all energy is prana...and then we see that different pranas have different functions or ways of acting in the body and different refinements. Guest guest
Sat Nam, Prana is the life force energy that is in us, and all around us. It is synonymous with chi (chinese) and ki (japanese) in their respective disciplines. Kundalini is a storage of energy in our bodies that lies dormant in the base of the spine. Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is designed to unlock this energy and raise it up the spine in a safe & healthy way. One could say that Kundalini energy is a type of prana. Good question!
