Guest guest
Sat Nam Leslie and Deva and...Everyone! I experienced huge "resistance" from my ego with this mantra....the first time I practiced....it was the first mantra I ever practiced before... so I went in kinda blind, not knowing anything about ego yet really...and I mananged for the 40 days and saw changes in my life. This meditation will give you an experience of "Sat Nam".. your true identity...so anything that "blocks" or obscures the light of that true identity, will need to raise to the surface to be healed eventually, when you chant this meditation. Then all of last year I kept feeling a calling to come back to it and practice it again in a committed way....and frankly it was hell, to begin with....but after the about the 65 day mark, I began to experience an easing of the crap rising to the surface and began to experience more light with it. So like Deva said...it's normal...and good positive forward movement to experience resistance to continuing a mantra, because of what begins arising for you when you do practice it... Understanding the process that you are going through, helps to de-mystify the experience for you....and helps you to move forward "despite" ego resistance. Meditation is meant to "clean out" your garbage can initially...we need to support that with "cleaning out" the physical body and taking care of it through a physical yoga practice as well...the two need to find a balance. There are different aspects that come together to support us in achieving an effective meditative practice....such as the above and then as Deva said...we need to cultivate awareness while we meditate so we can neutrally witness the mind and whatever other flow happens to be flowing through our space during our meditation... Without the witnessing aspect of meditation, which requires awareness, we never get past the point of drowning in our crap, we get overcome by it...we aren't able to understand or "distil" the gift out of the garbage inherent in it...we "bounce" back and forth between the positive and negative mind and we go off on a whim and whimsy anytime our senses get stimulated in a particular direction. Someone asked me off line the other day "how can I connect with the Source" ...when I responded I wasn't feeling particulary eloquent at that moment and perhaps didn't say as much as I should have...so I'll say a few things now about it in context with this post... Awareness and the developemnet of it, is key... One way it can be developed is by consciously breathing and relating to your whole body as you do it... so you take a breath in...and it's like all of a sudden, you can be aware and feel every cell in your body...you visualize the breath flowing into every cell on the inhale and then out, releasing negativity as you exhale...Now some people will read this and go "yup" I did that....but I mean "really" get in there and breathe and do not stop until you can consciously "feel" something (be it vibration, tingle, light, a sense of ease etc) in "every" single part of your body....in the parts where you can't feel...let the prana in the breath massage those areas until you can. Have a sense of yourself in totality...feel yourself deeply. On a really "physical" level this begins with feeling the gross physical anatomy of the body (muscles, bones, organs) and then in a more subtle way you expand your awareness to feel more deeply (or subtlely) the energy beneath the physical..."Well how do I do that??" I like to imagine that all of a sudden I am becoming aware of the "space" in my body (prana fills all spaces..so if I can feel the space, I can feel the prana) It's a new perspective. I imagine what the space in my lungs and heart feels like..imagining my sensory system is not bound in my physical body, but it can expand to feel the space within my body or without for that matter. It's a new perspective. Be willing to hold a "new" perspective. I begin to sense the space between my cells...the space between my muscles...the space within my bone structure...the space inwhich my mind lives...the space around my body (the aura)...the space in the bedroom down the hall from me...and it goes on and on... I become aware of this space by this method and eventually I begin to see all those spaces fill with light, as I become aware of the energy in my body...and then it goes on from there...where ever it happens to go... But once I get into that "aware" state then I can witness what goes on during meditation and understand and distil what needs to be distilled from it. Having this witnessing state of mind (meditative mind)in all aspects of your daily life allows you to track your experiences and what's coming to you in your enviroment, as well as what is going on within you at the time and it allows you the capacity to begin to "actively" instead of subconsciously, work with whatever is most important for you to work with in that moment. Remember...whatever is coming up for you in any given moment..is always going to be, what you should work with actively, to create the most forward movement for yourself...but without having the awareness of what "is" coming up for you...your like a dog chasing it's tail...stuck in a pattern. What does this have to do with connecting with the Source? You need to develope the skill of awareness inorder to be able to "recognize" the Source!! Remember God (the Source) is always lurking...we just can't see it through all the dust and debri in the air sometimes! The more we clean our mind and body through the meditative/yoga process...the more Source, we will see and experience in our lives. And there's nothing linear about all of this either! We can't talk about it in that way...it's a dynamic play. Where our consciouness is at will be different in all parts of our life. I might be able to live or uphold the "consciousness" of Non-violence in respect to, I not going to go out and beat the crap out of somebody...but I may not be able to maintain that consciousness in the words that I use to speak to another...they may cut like a knife... So there are always different levels that we are constanly intermingling with and we don't make it to one level and say "great! We're there or I made it!...finished with that!... never have to work with my ego again" (Ha Ha!).... (ROFL)....we are constantly, depending on where our consciousness is in that moment, doing a dance bewteen all these different levels or spaces (whatever you want to call them). And we are constantly developing and building momentum towards quantum leaping towards the light..with every little bit of awareness we muster within our practices, it moves us forward...that's money in the bank...to subsidize your "future" leap towards the light!" ha ha!
