Guest guest
Dharam Singh, What joy your letter brought me. Thank you for putting something that I have always felt, so beautifully into context!! I think that when we sing, there is a truth and joy, maybe a level of frankness we can get to, that the act of spontaneously singing or putting one's thoughts to music, can deeply impart. And perhaps that is what draws us so to a sung message or a singing performance. Gurmukh mentioned something about this in Eight Human Talents--that when we're in a restaurant and the table next to us bursts into a chorus of "Happy Birthday," we'll notice how much brighter their faces are! And ours too, more than likely. Who cares whether they are "singers" or not. Taking it a step further, maybe this is why getting students to sing the Adi Mantra at the beginning of class can be "the qualifier" that gets them to really participate! Or mentally run out the door. They/we are given a chance to affirm once again the deepest truth, "True Name" through the sacred and powerful medium of making this music in a group.
