Guest guest
Sat Nam ya'll, Well I haven't been doing much in the way of yoga sets for the last couple of months while my doctors try to figure out a problem I've been having. They couldn't, so it's back to my regular activities. This morning I did the 15 minute Morning Set and the Kriya for Regeneration and was appalled at how physically weak I seem to be. There was nothing that I could hold for the prescribed time. I continued on though and the ones I couldn't hold physically I tried to hold energetically It was a bit frustrating I must admit. Was that the right way to handle the situation? To those who teach people with HIV - what kind of sets do you use for your clients. I know they all have different strength and energy levels. Is there any consistent protocol, like work on the energetic body first, or regeneration, or specific bio-systems? I think I'm going about this the right way generally, but if any of you has any ideas how I can do it better. I try to start small and not put too much strain on an already stressed body, however my idea of "start small" may be a tad overzealous. I'm told that I don't seem to be having a very realistic view about my limits. On the other hand, I've survived abuse, addiction, gun battles, rheumatic fever and my own violence. I had a wound that was supposed to take at least a year to heal and I was up and about in 4 months. So I don't especially put alot of faith in other people's definition of my limits. But I recognize that limits do in fact exist somewhere and I'd hate to screw myself by exceeding them recklessly I know several of you teach in the HIV community. What do you know? Please feel free to write me off-list. Sat Nam, Leo
Guest guest
Sat Nam Leo, There is a rule of thumb: only exercise physically to the point where you are at about 50-70 per cent of your capacity, whatever that is. Beyond that, exercise stress starts to become exercise distress. The rest of the workout should be pranayam. Kriyas that work on the positive mind, navel point and ones sense of, and attitude toward, self, are best for HIV because that is essentially where the problem exists at the "psycho-spiritual" level. Seva Simran Singh P.S. Not surprising what you said about doing better than the the doctors said you would. Doctors rely on statistics. A few really bad cases will always skewer the stats, and tip their predictions towards the downside. Therefore we should always be wary of what Doctors say when it comes to predictions.>
Guest guest
Hi Leo, A year and a half ago I "threw out" my back. I couldn't afford to stay home and lay in bed as I had work obligations before I flew to Solstice. I couldn't do any moving yoga at all, yet I needed the quality of space that my practice gives me. I decided to do the "Aquarian Kriya", the three Kriyas. This gave me energy and clarity in my mental and physical bodies. The alignment was deep and I feel did a great amount to heal me. (see details below) Tension/weakness in the mind maintain tension/weakness in the body. This would be an essential addition to any book on "wheelchair" yoga. This is major yoga and a fine example of how Kundalini Yoga helps to maintain the integrity of the concept of "YOGA". Be well buddy, Dharam The series goes like this: (times can be increased) 11 mins of Sat Kriya, 11 mins of Kirtan Kriya (done outloud) and 11 minutes of Sodarshan Chakra Kriya 1 -Sat Kriya http://healingsource.com/womanheart/yoga/sat_kriya/sat_kriya.html (Awesome picture at http://www.libertyadvance.org/programs/yoga.intensives/yoga.pics/kundalini.pics/\ Pages/Image0.html ) 2 - Kirtan Kriya kundalini yogakyt15.html <kundalini yogakyt15.html> 3 - Sodarshan Chakra Kriya http://www.sahej.com/Sodarshan.html Then do one minute breath (20-20-20) for a few minutes to integrate before your layout. Also, there is a great article on my site at http://www.sahej.com/mysticism.html entitled "Letting Go of What You Haven't Got" Sat Nam Dharam Leo Miller wrote: > > This morning I did the 15 minute Morning Set and the Kriya for > Regeneration > and was appalled at how physically weak I seem to be.
