Guest guest
This repetition without repeating is called Ajappa Jap. There are 84 reflex points reflexes in the mouth that are triggered by the movement of the tongue. You could compare these reflexes with other better known reflexes such as our reactions to tickling, or sex (and we all know how all consuming that can be). Well, in the same way and sometimes as tangibly, by repeating mantra (Jappa) and stimulating these points over and over, one may be “overtaken” by the state of Ajappa Jap – of repeating without repeating. This state is one where you may actually feel like a bell resonating long after it has been struck…. The hypothalamus receives the impulses from the repetition of mantra. This is translated into instructions that go to vital areas of the brain and body. The hypothalamus is connected by blood vessels to the pituitary gland- the master gland of the body. Functions like hunger, drinking, body temperature, sleep, moods, emotional and sexual behavior are regulated by this gland. Try doing your Banis at the Golden Temple after you had had a "sip and a dip" in the Nectar Tank. Ajappa Jap is almost automatic. It can be a GAS! Your difficulty with sleep is *mostly likely* due to a Vatta imbalance. You are probably thinking a lot, you're living on nerves and need to eliminate this excess Vata. Move your body!, but do it with the breath. Get to sleep early. This very important. Take warm baths with oil. Avoid yeast and fermented foods. How are your joints? These times are very upsetting. Find the inner peace but do it through a grounded sense with your body and not so much meditation. Forward bends are grounding. Do you Dosha test. Guest guest
Thank you everybody for your great responses. SAT NAM Dharam, It does appear that my joints are getting better, more lubricated , I was not sure why they would crackle like crazy for over 2-3 weeks and are a lot better now. As far as sleeping is concerned I really sleep well but I am kind of aware between sleep as to what is going on inside of me, I always get a wake call from divine between 2:30AM and 4:30AM. Lately I feel extreem flow of energy all over and within body especially my hands, fingers. When I did my dosha test I got pitta prominent followed by vata almost equal.I was very acidic but yoga seems to be taking care of everything for me. I try and do 1000 chants on saturday once a week as well as fasting that day. You are very much true these days are very disturbing , my husband got laid off , lot of things happening around but I try to take the name of God to support us through these times. As far as baths are concerned I take cold water/warm water depending on my body's request so it will be like 5 warm baths/month on an avg others being cold. we are really very blessed to have you all. Guest guest
I have this happen a lot as well. But for me (of course, this is Christa, so get ready...) its not just mantras that will continue in my head throughout the day and night. I'll have this with songs as well. But its not that I'm singing them. If I hear a song on the radio, CD or tv even one time, there's a good chance that I'll end up having that play over and over again in my head. And with those of you who have small kids, there's only so much "fruit salad, yummy yummy" an adult can take (reference to a Wiggles' song for those non- parents). Now there have also been times when I'll do it with a mantra I'm meditating to, but is what you're describing the same for people who hear it repeated but aren't the ones actually singing/chanting it? Any thoughts on how to get it to stop? For me, what appears to work is if I do a lot of BOF, and then meditate on nothing but the breath (no words). I find that a lot of times this will take me to a void or stillness in my mind and I find that I usually don't hear the song/mantra at that point, unless I turn my attention back on to it. Between 2 and 4:00AM incredible energy courses through my hands, feet, head and throughout every cell in my body. I like how you called it "a wake up call from the divine". It is very pleasureable. This has been going on for about 6 months. The nice part is it wakes me up fully refreshed and ready to do my meditations before going to work.
