Guest guest
I have been trying kundalini yoga for at least 18 months, and I was not doing well with it. I asked a lot of questions, read a lot, but I think I must admit that working without a teacher was not doing me much good. One of my difficulties was doing the sets, they were all so strange and difficult!! I mainly did the spinal flexes, which was great, but I seemed to be getting less and less comfortable in my body. I felt that I was losing what I had gained in several years of hatha yoga lessons. My first need at this time is body strength. I have been diagnosed with MS, and after a lot of research and talk, I have decided that the best way to cope with this is to get strong. really strong. So I know now out in the gym 3 times a week, and take hatha yoga classes another 3 times a week. (I can only find Hatha yoga teachers). For me, it has been a huge difference working with a teacher once again. Sometimes all I need is a look, and I understand the pose, sometimes I need the teacher's touch, sometimes I need the energy of the group. But the main difference is that I feel I am once again pushing myself, just a bit every time, and every time I practice I am getting a bit better. working alone I seemed to be too easy on myself. It's not a question of discipline, because I really worked at it, I rarely missed a day. It's something else. Difficult to explain, but while I was alone, my body seemed to fall much too easily into weakness. I hope some day to find a teacher, because I have a gut feeling that kundalini yoga can be very right for me, if only I get the help I need. shoshana
Guest guest
Sat Nam...Shoshana, Yes... there is something to be said for "group" energy in the beginning of a practice, I believe. When I think back to when I first began KY and how "attached" I was to my teacher...I have to laugh! I needed that constant "input" to keep me focused. It was a very exciting time for me...as a student, learning and having this feeling like I was coming alive, in a way I hadn't been before. And I was attached to my teacher because when I was around him, is the only time I experienced those feelings. I'm happy to report as time flows, my capacity to experience, that "energy" or feeling of aliveness/connection with all, on my own increases....although....I still absolutely "love" practicing and meditating within a group....it soothes my Soul. All blessings on whatever path you may chose to follow... Sat Sangeet Kaur "s.cohen" <show wrote:I have been trying kundalini yoga for at least 18 months, and I was not doing well with it.
