Guest guest
Sat nam, I am a novice in KY and am determined to awaken kundalini shakti. I read a book by sivananda radha which was more of prose than practical aspects and guidance for KY. I read a bit abt KY on the internet. there are so many instances of sadhakas complaining of blockages and suffering physical and mental trauma while performing their kriyas. Does everyone go thru this phase or its just that they r forcing their awakening and hence following wrong methodology? what's the right source of information to trust and read. I dont have a guru to guide me as of now. I am a Reiki Master with have done pranayama exercise for some time. I need help from experienced yogi and yogins in this forum to suggest me the right path and methodology to adopt. I would be ever grateful to all of you here. Guest guest
sat nam i am beginning in kundalini also after a long stint with hatha. please remember to begin slowly and gently, and listen carefully to your body!!! it sounds like you are approaching this from a very mental point of mind. and as far as studying materials, the best by far that i have found are only books approved by the Kundalini Research Institute. i also to aquarian times, which is great for support and info on the basics. i would definitely try to only focus on the basic building blocks of KY for awhile, without so much emphasis on mastering kriyas. a good website list: 3HO organization homepage Kundalini Yoga.org ancient healing ways (a-healing.com) sat nam and good luck! -lisa

I have also read about many similar cases of unpleasant 'side-effects' from KY. I have also heard of several people who have combined KY and chi-gong to minimize the side effects. From what I have read & experienced, it seems to me that KY acts very quickly, but has a greater incidence of 'side-effects' compared to chi-gong. Chi-gong seems to act far more slowly, with fewer instances of 'side-effects.' This is why at first glance it seems that the best of both worlds might be attainable by combining these arts. I would like to hear from anyone who has combined these arts with success at minimizing unpleasant effects from KY. Perhaps if people could share their experiences in that area, we could all benefit. Guest guest
Hi Pradeep If you follow the teachings of Yogi Bhajan you should not experience these "unpleasant" side effects. The worst thing you can do is to trawl around the Internet. There are sites full of horror stories, about folk who experienced spontaneous awakenings - their Kundalini rose and their body was unprepared to handle the energy. You do not need a guru. Yogi Bhajan has always taught that you are your own guru, and it is by your own efforts that you will awaken your Kundalini. Check out our free online course - kundalini yogaclasses.html If you have any questions about any of the lessons, please refer them back to this forum. Sat Nam! Guest guest
Sat Nam, Kundalini yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan is a good place to start. In retrospect, I think I would have practiced more physical cleansing through diet and herbs to compliment my KY practice, in the beginning. I practiced for a year before I began to get into any of that sort of stuff. And what can I say...we have "crap" in our minds and as we begin an intense practice like KY, it will surface.....that's not a negative. Being educated in some regards, to what it is you are experiencing, I believe, helps one to manuevor the rough waters when they occur. When we don't understand the processes occuring in our bodies and minds as we cleanse them and strengthen them, we become afraid and feel alone....this inturn creates more turmoil. I think this is where we hear all the "crazy" KY tales coming from. And with that said, I believe, there are just some things that you need to go through (in terms of symptoms) in order to come out the other side. So I think as you embark on a practice of KY....if you follow the practices as laid out in any manual based on Yogi Bhajan's teachings, take care of your physical body in whatever way may be called for, when you have concerns express them to someone who is knowledgeable and trustworthy and allow them to guide you...I think that is a conscious and safe practice of KY!
