Guest guest
Greetings all, My name is Dawn and I joined this group a few weeks ago. I've taken my time and read all the posts from the time I joined (whew!) I can relate to so many of the things people have been saying here and have also learned a lot. I'd also like to say I am very grateful for all of the wisdom, kindness, honesty and love that is exchanged within this group. I feel a sense of belonging here that doesn't usually exist for me. I'd like to give a little information about myself, and I don't know exactly where to start. I think the biggest motivation for me to speak up at this time is the talk of addiction. I have also struggled with many addictions over my lifetime and presently continue to struggle with the last few stragglers, nicotine being the one that seems to be the most difficult for me. I'm down to about 2 cigarettes a day and mostly just try to be forgiving of myself because I know for myself that when I replace the cigarettes with things that bring me joy and health they become a non-issue, and that applies to my other addictions as well. I grew up in a really "dark" place and used books as an escape from my nightmare. When I was ten I checked out my first yoga book and began doing the exercises the best I could. I learned that when I could calm my mind I was able to find a place where everything was truly all right. I grew up and basically "forgot" what I learned as a child until about four years ago I signed up for a kundalini yoga class. After the second class I got sick like I had not been sick for years. (I'd been a smoker for a looong time) during my illness I had no desire to smoke. When I was feeling better and going back to yoga my desire for cigarettes stayed away. I felt physically and spiritually better than EVER. When the class was over I tried to continue on my own and failed miserably (discipline not being one of my strong points) I've stayed on a spiritual path, become a vegetarian and slowly changed my unhealthy lifestyle, but while my spirit soars my body drags along slowly behind, so slowly in fact that I am now experiencing some health problems with my kidneys and liver. This "split" in my personality is becoming too painful and I feel an urgent need to take action in the form of kundalini practice. I've begun again on my own from books and web sites, but really want to take a class and be in the presence of a teacher. I'm moving to phoenix Arizona in less than a month and will be looking for a kundalini yoga teacher, friends and a job. I know these are all already there and I will find them when the time is right, but I would also like to ask the group for help. If anyone here is from the phoenix area and would like to share information with me I would gladly accept. Thank you. Sat nam Dawn
Guest guest
Wow! You're the second person to tell me they are moving to Pheonix this week! A student of mine is going there for a visit and said she located I think 8 teachers in the area...as well I drove in a shuttle van at winter solstice with someone from pheonix and they were talking about all these plans they were working on and building a big Gudwara etc.. so there must be quite a community base there? Look at 3ho.org for a link for Ky teachers....you'll find what you need dawn. Good luck...happy moving! Guest guest
Hi Dawn Check out the Yoga Technology online directory to find a teacher in Phoenix. There is a handy email link next to each entry. I know we have 3 teachers listed in the city, and others in the surrounding area . If you do locate someone, please let them know where you found their name. Sat Nam!
