Sat Nam Dena,

To give an Ayurvedic perspective on treatment of psychological disorders...

imbalances caused by tamasic and rajasic diet, the guna constitution, or

wrong impressions...may lead to a number of psychological disorders, one

being what Western doctors term schizophrenia. You might want get the book

Ayurveda and The Mind by David Frawley for more information. Mantra ("what

protects the mind")

is the main method for treating consciousness-Chitta. It may be far more

helpful to chant a mantra than to analyze our psychological problems. The

mantra changes the energetic structure of the mind which dissolves the

problem, while thinking about the problem reinforces it. Since your student

has fear of the world she is feeling exposed to; mantra has built in

protection. Does she know her constitution? Using aromatherapy based on her

dosha type couldn't hurt!

I am faced with a new situation and am wondering if anyone out there

has had experience in this area - One of my new students has

recently been diagnosed with schizophrenia.  She hears voices at the

back of her head that she feels expose her to another world - one

that she does not want to be in.

Blessings,

Rebecca
