Guest guest
Sat Nam Beautiful Souls, Can you help me? I teach a KY class at the local phone company. From beginning to end we have only 40 minutes. Your suggestions on what to pack into that time would be most appreciated. Also, a few are not too crazy about the chanting. Sat Nam, thank you. Guest guest
Guru Prem Off the top of my head, I would tune in, do ego-eradicator, do some spinal warm ups, spinal twists, do some front and/or side stretches. Then do the Breath Meditation Series for Glandular Balance from Sadhana Guidelines. It's three postures long and you can repeat it up to three times for a deeper effect depending on the time available. Leave time for a layout and finish with long Sat Nams or Ra Ma Da Sa....... Guest guest
Sat Nam Guru Prem, Dharam, I wasn't going to respond until I read Dharam's post. 'Ego Buster' as I call it is the same as 'Ego Eradicator' I believe. At any rate, this was the first thing I thought of when I read about the resistance to the chanting. Eventually you may be able to add some chanting and they'll be ok with it, give the yoga time to work on their 'self' consciousness, I wasn't too crazy about it when I begin either. Can't add anything to Dharam's recommendation, other than that. Blessings Deva

Guest guest
Sat Nam, I think a 40-minute class sounds like fun! Wahe Guru! Most kriyas are about 30-40 minutes in length, done with maximum times. You should be able to get through any of them more quickly if you reduce times and skip warmups. The necessity of warmups is one of those debatable subjects in Kundalini yoga anyway It all depends on the kriya you pick -- some have warmups built in, some may go smoother after a few spinal flexes and twists, BOF, etc... Use your common sense, and practice your set for several days in a row before teaching it so you streamline the pacing and timing. If the students don't want to chant, you can teach them meditations where mantras are mentally recited instead of chanted or sung, and keep it brief. But please don't skip the meditation portion of the class altogether... they will get used to it, they may even end up liking it Ong so hung, Ranjit K. P.S. I'm back on the list, and getting individual emails now! I've missed you!! rjk ><cskyrm >Kundaliniyoga ><Kundaliniyoga> >Kundalini Yoga 40 minutes, suggestions? >Wed, 23 Apr 2003 8:48:14 -0400 > >Sat Nam Beautiful Souls, > Can you help me? Guest guest
Sat Nam Guru Prem (I love your name, by the way), I teach a 40 minute class and it's over in a blink! But...actually I come across many sets that have only 3 or 4 exercises in them, so it works out perfectly. I tune in, do a few spinal warm ups, then the kriya, and then about 5 mins of relaxation and then long Sat Nams to end. If I'm wanting to include chanting, I choose a kriya that has the use of mantra built into it, rather than doing a med at the end, as there just is no time, I find. I also explain that meditation is a big part of KY and that our goal is to work towards a balanced practice of both....and then I also, sometimes, just do a bear bones warmup and some Sat Kriya, long deep relaxation and then have time for a full meditation? Have fun!
