Guest guest
sat nam i have been doing stretch pose every day now in the morning for about a month. it's great for about 30-40 seconds and then it feels as if my stomach muscles become paralyzed almost and refuse to contract and expand for breath of fire. so usually, i let myself lay down again and rest and pick it back up when they relax a little. but i can never do it for more than a half minute or so, and it's frustrating, because i feel that the true benefit comes after holoding the position for atleast a minute, and that is what others have professed. does anybody have two cents for me? -love, lisa
Guest guest
Sat Nam Lisa, I've been doing this every morning for, well uh, I lost count. You have to build your navel power, and the only way to do it is to just add a few seconds every 2- 3 days or so. Also, pace yourself. Find a nice steady pace, and if you're feeling frisky crank it up occasionally. I started with a minute and worked up to 3, I do 2.5 right now. Other kriyas to build lung capacity will also help. Keep up Deva
Guest guest
Lisa...have you ever tried just to continue with a long deep breath once your abdominal muscles freeze up? Sometimes when I hit the wall, if I take a few slow breaths, I can begin again with renewed energy in a moment? The other question I would ask..is...how's your BOF normally? Are you really comfortable with it and can you sustain it normally without stopping or loosing steam? Because stretch pose requires navel strength but also add the extra task of navel coordination (BOF)...you might not be getting a balanced breath into you? Just some other thoughts? Guest guest
Lisa, It's real good you are doing this morning routine. I've been on it for many years. Sometimes I am not excited about getting out of bed and if I can remember to chant something sweet, it releases my whole being allowing for more navel strength and integration. It's been written that there are as many nerves, if not more, in the gut/navel as there are in the spinal column. So you particularly can't look at your navel as simply a bunch of muscles. You are right to rest after each effort. It annoys me to no end when I see "experienced" instructors not allowing for a deep repose, at least a minute, after doing deep navel work. You have the Sympathetic (doing) and the Parasympathetic (relax and digest) nervous systems. There is a balance. Build your overall navel integrity with Nabhi Kriya (in "Transitions............."). Also, do your Ishnaan (aka Hydrotherapy......aka a cold shower) with Breath of Fire. Really work your navel. This is real good for your whole nervous system. Hope that helps, Dharam dipsuki666 wrote: > sat nam > > i have been doing stretch pose every day now in the morning for about a > month. it's great for about 30-40 seconds and then it feels as if my > stomach > muscles become paralyzed almost and refuse to contract and expand for > breath > of fire. so usually, i let myself lay down again and rest and pick it > back up > when they relax a little. but i can never do it for more than a half > minute > or so, and it's frustrating, because i feel that the true benefit > comes after > holoding the position for atleast a minute, and that is what others have > professed. does anybody have two cents for me? > > -love, lisa
Guest guest
"if I can remember to chant something sweet, it releases my whole being allowing for more navel strength and integration." OH! This just reminded me of one other thing, I remember I did when I felt I could not "make it" through stretch pose in the beginning.....CALL ON GURU RAM DAS!! Ha ha! I remember my teacher telling us how when you call on him, he HAS to show up...so you can rely on that....so with every huff and puff of my BOF, I would be chanting in my head Ra Ma Da Sa Sa Se So Hung!! It seems to me, if I recall correctly it worked?!! Ha ha! Guest guest
Lisa, To the great advice you have already received from Deva and Sat Sangeet I would only add that if you keep it up every day, you will get stronger and your stamina will improve so that you will be able to increase the length of time you can sustain the posture and still do breath of fire. You may even be quite surprised at what it does to strengthen you abs and to give you that much-admired, wash-board stomach. Guest guest
Steve....I thought you might suggest she do 31 minutes of Sat Kriya first! Ha ha! That's bound to help the situation!! Lisa...I'm sure that would be another option!! (now I'm just getting goofy!) Sat Sangeet "A. Guest guest
Sat Sangeet, I use stretch pose (I count 400 breaths in breath of fire) as part of my warm-up before doing Sat Kriya. And, I do find that the Sat Kriya both opens and strengthens my navel point and abs. As to your suggestion, I don't think there is anything that 31 minutes a day of Sat Kriya would not help with! ;-) Thanks for your humor! :-D Steve Porter Sat Sangeet wrote: >Steve....I thought you might suggest she do 31 minutes of Sat Kriya first!
